Fallen Angels
i don’t know how long she’ll stay..the longer the better of course! bro..like, no bullshit. i’m honestly starting to feel as though i enjoy asian cinema WAY MORE than american cinema. this was the best arthouse film i have seen to date on a visual scale! the way wong kar-wai controls the camera is so beautiful for his film style. i definitely enjoyed this way more than in the mood for love honesty. i love the way this film depicts loneliness & how one person can change how you feel about life & just your outlook on it as a whole. which is shown through he-zhiwu’s character. also, the relationship w him & his dad was one of my favorite elements of this film. i truly appreciated the wholesomeness of their relationship. i have to watch this again asap. everything about it just pulls you in as a viewer. & the fact that the artistic elements of the film don’t take away from the story/plot or lessen the film, really makes this just an amazing watch all around! the soundtrack & scores are fucking epic too!

On the Silver Globe
i am in the prison of my own freedom well, that was a DEFINITELY a rollercoaster. i have NEVER seen absolutely anything like this film in my entire life. it’s actually crazy that the polish government were doing their all to shut this down, like, actually bizarre! the whole time it just felt like i couldn’t take my eyes off the screen. almost hypnotizing honestly. even during the explanation of scenes that weren’t able to be shot i still was glued to the screen. the cinematography of this film was also absolutely stunning. i’m happy i got the chance to see this cause i definitely would’ve never seen this on my own choice or time. this is definitely a classic man! now all i wanna do is go down a rabbit hole of everything about this film, the director, & why the polish government feared it so much.

Michael
rewatched it & it was even better than the first viewing.

Fight Club
i found freedom. losing all hope was freedom. BRUH! Y’ALL HAVE TO GET OUT & GO SEE THIS IN 4K IMMEDIATELY! I GENUINELY DIDN’T THINK THIS FILM COULD GET ANY BETTER MAN! that final explosion scene in 4K w “where’s my mind?” THUMPING IN THEATER SPEAKERS IS ONE OF THE BEST CINEMA MOMENTS I EVER HAD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE! plus, i’ve always wanted to see this film in theaters & my first time being in 4K..chefs kiss bro. times like this, i think how lucky we are to be able to catch something like this 27 years after its original theatrical run. please, i repeat PLEASE GO SEE THIS IF YOU CAN!

Ichi the Killer
there’s no love in your violence.. bro LMAO! i have absolutely no idea what in the hell i watched, but it had me on the edge of my sweat the whole time! bruh, you can’t even recommend this film to nobody cause they deadass gonna think something wrong w you in the head LOLOL! the film had me rolling too, all the comedy bits hit perfectly each time. & omg, my boy kakihara was OVERLY fly! all of his fits were crazy trim! the cgi was absolutely horrific tho LMAO! probably the worst i’ve ever seen, but luckily it doesn’t take away from the movie. like, i’m pretty sure they used it for comedic reasons cause it’s no way bro lol. i did appreciate the aesthetic of the film too. in all reality it was enjoyable, it’s just one wild, crazy, weird ass screenplay, but it also does work so i can’t take that away from it.

Michael
this movie more than anything is about the experience! i definitely enjoyed myself & it was an amazing viewing experience, the actual writing in itself is a little ehh to me. but it’s not a bad movie, like at all, but i feel like i walked out of there not learning anything new about bro besides his passion for cinema, if that makes sense. i understand why, but i just feel the director and writer played it wayyy too safe. it’s so many things they could’ve explored more. it’s way more positive than negative, in my opinion! colman domingo was horrifying as joe. deadass terrifying bro. you can real feel the dread that man brings in every scene he’s in. jaafar too was phenomenal. bro really had everything down pact! from his voice to the dancing to the mannerisms! at times, it feels like you’re actually watching michael fr. i honestly thought the ensemble cast as a whole worked really well w the time period. most importantly though, hearing his music in a packed theater was really the chef’s kiss for me. the final act was damn near like a live performance in a movie theater. you could hear everyone mumbling & trying not to sing along! a once in a life time experience for sure. music deadass had never sounded that damn good at anywhere i’ve been LMAO. i’m gonna go see it again this weekend & revisit how i feel about the writing. please go see this & don’t let anybody deter you. it’s a michael jackson movie not the next Scorsese film y’all..

No Other Choice
i’m at war right now..for my family! wow park has really done it again bro. he is slowly, but surely becoming my favorite filmmaker of all time man. my favorite thing about this film is the way park confronts capitalism head on & how exploitative it truly is. as somebody who’s a LOUD speaker against capitalism, this film perfectly shows how capitalism only works & is meant for the exploitation of others in lesser positions. the way he conveys this to the audiences is just amazing, genuinely something i’ve never seen before. i can’t stress enough how park’s use of color in his films really enhance the viewing experience. i really appreciate how park also more so focuses on the humanity aspects of what man-su is doing. he makes it to where you really have NO OTHER CHOICE, (lol see what i did there) but to root for man-su. & not because of what he’s doing, but WHY HE IS DOING IT! park does such a good job of finding the little things, that we all can relate to on a social/human level inside of man-su’s crazy ass plan. the soundtrack to this film was also heavenly. they had me adding korean music to my apple music library bro LMAO! mi-ri was also stunning, she was really drop dead gorgeous. park also is just so good at these underlying themes & messages in his films. like, he is always able to show the significance of whatever story he is telling at the moment. like for instance, notice how when you think about it, it’s literally 3 generations of the men in that house burying their crimes under the home which is a metaphor for capitalism & how others wealth & south korea today was built on the sacrifice & the exploitation of others & the less & fortunate! i’m so hurt i couldn’t see this in theaters. i just know it was absolutely beautiful! it should actually be a crime the way the academy snubbed this masterpiece bro! side note: so after finishing the film, i did some research on it to see park’s outlook & his thought process that went into making this film, but i actually ended up finding something way more interesting. basically, as most know this film is held in high regard here in the states. well, from my research i found out that is NOT the case in south korea where the film was made! in south korea the film actually faced a lot of criticism. the koreans really felt the film was a huge smack in the face & very distasteful & disrespect as a whole around. safe to say they didn’t appreciate his attacks on the capitalistic society we live in today.

Oldboy
laugh, & the world laughs with you. weep, & you weep alone. yea, it’s official everyone. i am now DEFINITELY addicted to south korean cinema. & next to memories of a murder this might be the best one so far! immediately from the opening scene, park had me HOOKED LIKE CRACK ROCK BRO LMAO! i just can’t stress enough how amazing of a filmmaker park truly is. everything he does has deeper meanings & is just so thoughtful. like, his use of color works so well for this story. this story alone is just out of this world. unfathomable all while working so well at the same time. no funny, i real almost actually threw up when the plot twist was revealed. i knew it was a crazy twist going into it, but didn’t know what it was. & out of ALL the things, i tried to come to the conclusion to while watching. NONE OF THEM WERE EVEN REMOTELY CLOSE TO THE ACTUAL TWIST. & the main character was stunningly believable as dae-su! everything park does is so meaningful & it really shows in his work. bro..THAT ALL ONE SHOT, NO CUT, 3 MINUTE FIGHT SCENE WAS FUCKING PERFECTION. A TRUE MASTERPIECE! by far, the best fight choreography i’ve ever seen in my entire life. park REALLY got that shit bro on a filmmaking tip. he genuinely has me addicted to south korean cinema dawg. masterpiece of a film!

Heat
i was bored, so i watched this again at like 2am. & all i could notice & focus on was just how damn beautiful all the architecture of the every home is in this film. i was genuinely in awe of these houses. especially neil’s house on the beach, justine’s home, & the final home that the police try to use charlene to lure chris to. BRUH THE HOME ARCHITECTURE IS TO FUCKING DIE FOR BRO!

The Handmaiden
BRUHHHHHHH! I DON’T KNOW HOW THE HELL PARK DOES IT MAN! HE IS LITERALLY A FILM GENIUS AT THIS POINT. this film made go into such a deep rabbit hole about this man. truly NOBODY does WTF MOMENTS like park does them! & the cinematography in this film is really chefs kiss. great performances all around too. that runtime flew by like clockwork bro. like, i genuinely can’t even say too much without spoiling this masterpiece.

Watchmen
it’s too late. always has been, always will be..too late. this is really such a beautiful superhero film. i’d even go far enough to say this is zack snyder’s best superhero film in general. i loved everything about this. the dark blueish, grayish color grading of the film is so aesthetically pleasing to lay your eyes on. also, the cinematography was beautiful, which i really really appreciated because i feel it’s often such an overlooked aspect of superhero films. the character backgrounds is what really got me into the story. the way they actually dive into each watchmen makes all of them so much more believable & understandable on a human level. one of my favorite things about this film is dr. manhattan’s character design too! for 2009 he looks STUNNING! they chose the perfect glowing blue color for him. lastly, the most important thing is this film was the only superhero film that actually gave a comic book type feel to it. idk how to explain it, but it feels like your watching a comic book. i just know the theater viewing was to die for man. side note: LOL, AND ROGER EBERT GAVE IT A 4/4 ON HIS SCALE!!!

Phantom Thread
to keep my sour heart from choking. to break a curse..a house that doesn't change is a dead house. so today i got to see a screening of this film in 70MM for my second viewing! & Y’ALL! words just cannot explain how STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL THIS FILM IS! after my first viewing i was in awe of how amazing of a film this was & i watched it at home on my TV. seeing it in 70MM genuinely gave me entirely different & even BETTER perspective on it. i deadass was tearing up at the end just based on how much it had me mesmerized! after seeing it in theaters, i can now say that i truly believe this is PTA’s MAGNUM OPUS! in all honesty, it reminds me a lot of barry lyndon in the way that in both films every single frame feels & looks just like a painting! & daniel day-lewis is like no other, especially when he teams up w PTA! nobody could’ve mastered that role the way he does! he literally makes REYNOLDS what he is! & i just loved vicky krieps as alma! PTA is the ONLY director that could have me that immersed into a screenplay like phantom thread!

The Color of Money
it’s like a nightmare, isn’t it? it just keeps getting worse & worse, doesn’t it? y’all when i say nobody does music in cinema like MARTY, I MEAN ABSOLUTELY NOBODY! i literally added 5 songs to my library just from this film. this is such an underrated film in my opinion. paul newman was phenomenal as eddie & mixing that w a young hungry tom cruise was just perfect! they play off each other so well. marty really might be the best director of all time man. like genuinely! just some of his camera work is really out of this world in this film. the way the first match between vincent & grady was shot was honestly PURE PERFECTION. especially w the guitar rifts in the back from “let yourself in for it” was one of the most beautiful things i’ve ever seen on film. then the way the guitar slows down starting the fading transitioning montage of eddie watching the match. like OMFG BRO! MARTY IS REALLY DIFFERENT BRUH! also, the mirror shot through the pool ball..THIS MAN IS GOATED!!!

Barry Lyndon
good or bad, handsome, or ugly, rich or poor. they are all equal now! i finished this at 3:30am last night & woke up still in awe of just how beautiful this film was. for starters, i’ve always been a history buff. even back in high school, history was always not only my best subject, but also my favorite. so, i will say i am slightly biased due to me being such a sucker for period pieces & historical dramas. that aside though, stanley kubrick is really a genius filmmaker. his use of color & light is truly like no other. it plays such a big part in his films due to him starting as a photographer & you can genuinely feel that in every scene! so many scenes of barry ACTUALLY MIMIC PAINTINGS IN THEMSELVES! the whole film almost feels like a collection of moving paintings. kubrick’s use of those far back wide camera shots are just so damn stunning because of how much they convey to the viewer. the true loneliness in all of these characters regardless of how high their social ranks are. watching barry start off as a lover boy simp who’s willing to die over nora to becoming cold, removed, & emotionless was such a crazy & interesting journey to witness. i just might have to watch this again tonight, that’s how damn beautiful & pleasing it was. nobody can immerse you into a story like kubrick could man. PS: on another note of the paintings, & how the film looks & mimics a lot of paintings. if you pay attention it’s kind of like a foreshadowing of how barry tries to paint his own version of what he wants his life to be.

Eyes Wide Shut
no dream is EVER just a dream.. so, i wanna start this off by saying i am NOT a fan at all, like, at all of extremely sexually tense or sexually driven films. the easiest way to put it, is it’s just really not my cup of tea. i’ve NEVER been a fan of sex scenes or over nudity in film. it has always made me slightly uncomfortable, 10/10 times even as a straight male. w that being said though, this one film is the ONLY EXCEPTION!it was just such a fucking masterpiece of cinema! from the performances to the direction to the original soundtrack to the screenplay! even though the whole plot is focused on lust, it’s executed in a way where, to me, shows you all the con’s of too much lust or not knowing what to do w the lust inside of us. i also appreciated all the hidden meanings, messages, & themes. like for example,if you notice DR. BILL sounds a lot like DOLLAR BILL! which is what bill uses to get himself in and out of MULTIPLE situations until money can no longer buy him what he wants. that was genuinely one of the wildest 24-48 hours i’ve ever witnessed in film LOL. & ALICE IS HANDS DOWN IN MY TOP 3 WORST BLUNT ROTATION NOW LMAO! the chemistry between tom cruise & nicole kidman was amazing too. they genuinely felt like an uppity nyc couple. kubrick’s use of color & light really put the film over the top for me! that man is deadass a FILM GENIUS! like the parallels he makes between the christmas party & the somerton party were phenomenal! the scores also were so damn fascinating & eerie! those pianos really had my heart rate up x10. it’s like it’s hypnotizing you to NOT take your eyes off the screen! bro, i was sick to my stomach when bill went to the costume store the next day! just trifling man. to wrap this up(cause i could go on writing about this film all damn day)for someone who REALLY despises sexually driven movies. i could DEADASS watch this every day of my life & not only enjoy each rewatch more & more, but also learn & find something new about in every single rewatch! KUBRICK YOU WAS BEFORE YOUR TIME TWIN LMAO!

Dune: Part Two
what if i could be THE ONE? this could be the moment you've been praying for, all your life. OH DENIS! DENIS! DENIS! WHAT A GENIUS YOU ARE! i wanna start this off by saying the first time i watched this film i definitely had mixed feelings. now, after this viewing i can confidently say this film is a TRUE work of art! everything & i mean everything about it is just some of the most beautiful cinema i have ever witnessed! the cinematography is just stunningly breathtaking! arrakis is so empty & deserted, but the film makes it feel so full & shows the beauty in it! the harkonnen’s genuinely look absolutely terrifying also! stellan & austin were phenomenal, they both come off as extremely dark in the mental. & austin’s character design was perfect too, looks like something out of a horror film! the fight choreography is amazing too, you can tell they definitely took the time to master it. timothee is really perfect the role of paul. he’s so convincing in every single scene he’s in. even when he doesn’t have much to say! like, when paul had his rebirth, I KNEW IT WAS BOUT TO GET CRUCIAL FOR THE OPPOSITION LOL! this is such an achievement of filmmaking in my opinion, honestly the whole trilogy is. speaking on the trilogy..WE NEED PART 3 IMMEDIATELY BRO! ASAP! EDIT: ALMOST FORGOT! YOU KNOW THIS FILM IS AMAZING TOO BECAUSE THE ALMOST 3 HOUR RUNTIME GENUINELY FLIES BY!

Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai
i’ve seen everything i need to see.. bruh, i’m actually mad that i’ve waited this long to watch this masterpiece of cinema! this is one of the coolest crime thrillers i have ever seen in my entire life! forest whitaker was literally perfect for this. i love the way he approached this role, his ability to say so much while saying absolutely nothing at all was just amazing! the mafia aspect of this honestly played very well into the story too, plus i’m a sucker for all types of mafia movies. like, it didn’t feel forced in anyway to me. the problem was actually plausible honestly. & to save the best for last..RZA, OMG RZA! bruh, the original composed scores by RZA were by far my favorite/best part of the whole film. every single score not only worked, but more importantly they all added so much more feeling to the film. i could listen to that shit all day. it goes so well w the city & it’s underworld too. this is definitely something i would recommend to absolutely everyone!

Da 5 Bloods
war is not the answer. for only love can conquer hate. y’all i honestly w all my heart feel this deadass is the best film i watched so far this year man! i stayed up until 2:30AM watching this & it was WORTH EVERY SECOND. next to malcolm x i genuinely believe & feel this is spike lee’s best film all around! those 2 & a 1/2 hours went by so damn fast. i actually highkey was wishing it was longer LMAO! bro, delroy lindo’s performance as paul deadass just blew my mind entirely. the way delroy was able to execute paul’s anger at the entire world was beyond perfect. i was actually starting to find myself feeling bad for him & his awful decisions. it’s so crazy because paul really thought out of all the bloods he was without a doubt the toughest one, but in all reality he was actually the weakest one mentally by far. & all my black folks know we all got that ONE uncle in the family who’s just mad at the entire world for absolutely no reason or feels like america did them janky their whole lives & their lives are everyone else’s fault, but their owns. & delroy plays that shit SO CANNON! this film truly brought SO MANY emotions out of me, I FEEL THIS FILM IN MY HEART BRO! i went from CRYING LAUGHING on the floor to CRYING MY EYES OUT BRO! & in only like, a matter of 10 MINUTES APART! this whole cast was just amazing, every single character to in my opinion just couldn’t have been executed any better! isiah whitlock was definitely my favorite part of the whole thing though. BRO IS DEADASS HILARIOUS..SHEEEEEIT!RIP TO HIM & CHADWICK MAN💔TRUE LEGENDS👼🙏! i could really keep on writing about this film all day honestly. the scores & soundtrack went so well w the story & their particular scenes too! SPIKE LEE IS JUST SO GOATED!

25th Hour
SHEEEEEEIT! MR. BROGAN, I DO BELIEVE YOU’RE FUCKED.. this actually might be spike’s most underrated & overlooked film. i really loved the story & the message this film conveys. i also really appreciated the great ensemble of character actors used for this film. philip seymour specifically is just such a phenomenal actor. he embodies absolutely every role he’s in! & i love when edward norton plays these sleazy type underworld characters. it always fits him & his acting abilities so well. the 2000’s aesthetic this film has also works great for it too! isiah whitlock jr. really stole the film for me though LMAO. in the 2 or 3 scenes he’s in, bro genuinely had me crying w that “SHEEEEEEIT” LMAO. lastly though, something about the “fuck this city & everybody in it” scene was just so masterful! to me it just came across as so beautiful in my understanding of the scene. on one end, it shows how people blame absolutely everybody & everything else, but themselves for the situations they get themselves in. when in all reality they put their OWN-SELVES in these positions. monty literally was going about life blaming everything & everyone for all his missteps until that mirror epiphany. & on the other end, to me it’s just beautiful how stereotypes or not, all races truly have their own cultures apart from each other all while being so close in distance in a city like new york.

Silence
the mountains & rivers can be moved, but man's nature can never be moved. WOW! JUST WOW! such an absolutely stunning, dark, gut wrenching, but unbelievably beautiful movie! from marty’s masterful direction, to andrew’s just remarkable performance, to rodrigo’s beautiful cinematography! this was such a dark story & i love how it was executed. you quickly notice the absence of music & the almost non existent scores really make you feel all of the dread in the film! i just can’t believe how dedicated andrew was to this role. his range is out of this world! HE KILLED IT! now, i have to read the novel the screenplay is based off. this is such an overlooked masterpiece in scorsese’s filmography. i’m mad now that i was putting it off for this long man, WTF!
