"Wuthering Heights"
April 2026

Moonlight
second act almost broke me oh my god i needed to hug chiron so bad 😭 this is such a beautiful devastating movie, it'll take me some time to watch it again. i'm so glad it won best picture over la la land.

My Father's Shadow
everything is sacrifice. you just have to pray you didn't sacrifice the wrong thing. what a movie! this moved me multiple times, from the story to the performances. definitely deserves to be in the ranks of aftersun.

It Was Just an Accident
such a strong movie and what an ending too! the nominees for best international feature film are much better than the nominees for best picture if i'm being totally honest.

One Battle After Another
you lot were complaining about kieran culkin winning an oscar last year because he was "playing himself" but sean penn just did the same exact thing. the first part was great, all of the action had me hooked, but the second half kinda fell through imo. i can't believe this won best picture when sentimental value and the secret agent were nominated in the same category. and pta deciding to not comment about the current politics of his country when thisis the movie he won his awards for?? dpmo. i do have some nice things to say though. chase infiniti is a delightful discovery, teyana taylor was so good and her acting was so impactful even with the short amount of screen time she had (i was hoping for more), and i so wish benicio del toro's character was more explored (i was lowkey more invested in his story). leo as a dad did endear me in a way.

The Secret Agent
what a beautiful film! beautifully shot and with such a vibrant colour palette. the mystery of the plot and the 70s setting reminded me of the nice guyswhich really made me appreciate this movie more. moura should win the best actor oscar for this!

Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man
so many things to say i don't even know where to begin.. peaky blinders is one of my favourite series ever. to watch cillian play tommy shelby on the big screen was so special (and may i say this was tommy shelby at his hottest, we should've gotten an entire season of him instead of just a movie). the movie was good, it had me feeling all sorts of emotions, cried a few times even, but as a peaky fan, this was underwhelming. i was expecting something grandiose and that would've had me on the edge of my seat like peaky season four, but i guess the fact it was a movie limits the plot. one thing they got right from the series though is the absolutely stunning soundtrack. i would've loved some arctic monkeys in there but the grian chatten original song and the perfect romance by fontaines dc needle drop make up for it. the acting was also amazing. cillian murphy as always never disappoints as tommy shelby, and barry keoghan is actually good as duke shelby. was so nice to be reunited with peaky regulars. helen mcrory and benjamin zephaniah were dearly missed. tom hardy should've been there as alfie. it was good, but i'm also gonna pretend this isn't canon to peaky blinders.

Bugonia
what the hell, sure. lovely colour palette and very cool score though. jesse plemons should've gotten an oscar nomination for this.

Sentimental Value
oh how i wished i had seen this in theatres. such a gentle and sad movie. the characterization of the house was my favourite part, and i audibly gasped and went "NO" when it was modernized for the 21st century grey minimalist style. elle fanning was just amazing, and honestly so was everyone else. nora borg you are the new addition to my list of characters i relate to a little too much.

The Straight Story
so special to have a movie that's so david lynch in its technical aspects but for such a heartwarming story.

Portrait of a Lady on Fire
that last scene was chilling

I Am Not a Witch
so beautiful and dark and sad. the last scenes were so poignant. mind blowing that this was a directorial debut.

Valparaiso

You Hide Me
very important short film, even more important for anyone studying and/or working in art history / art preservation / museology. we already tackle this subject a lot in multiple of my classes but we really will never be able to understand what it is like to have your art, and thus a part of your culture, stolen from you in such a way. the guts nii kwate owoo had to walk in the british museum and make this film, i am in total admiration.

Touki Bouki
i don't think i can articulate how good this movie is in a way that would do it justice, so you'll have to go through the reviews i liked for that. what i will say is that it is absurd to me that people will refuse to watch movies in a language they don't understand, from a country that isn't theirs and/or that was released 50 years ago. how lucky are we to live at a time where we have access to a restoration of a senegalese movie from the 1970s?

Girls Town
such a good underrated movie!! it's sad, it's fun, it's sweet, it's kind to its protagonists, it's a good ol' coming of age movie! the restoration is beautiful, the soundtrack is amazing.

Penelope
kind of the best romcom ever

Moonstruck
cher was so good playing an italian american i had to look up if she's an actual one

The Muppet Show
i need the version of manchild with the chickens on back vocals available on spotify NOW
