Finally after 4 years I got to see it in theaters and I gotta say In this random indie theater in San Luis Obispo where I am like one of maybe 3 indians with an audience of americans, this is one of my favorite theater experiences  Again, I love silly over the top movies that actually owns that it is  that and uses it to its advantage  This audience was laughing a lot and I loved it it was like see how a wrestling audience would interact on screen  Movie still holds up I forgot some really cool thematic shots and noticed somethings interesting like the scene where bheem was locating ram, the sound used to communicate is the same beat progression as the opening notes in Naatu Naatu Man isn’t it cool to have an indian movie that made 1000 crores that visual communicates and uses its silly over the top action that still makes you understand the characters without text on screen or dumbing it down for audiences I never would have imagined that, wink wink

I was going to do the line that every other review you see here  But no I genuinely did have an I’M GOOD BRO 🤣🤣🤦‍♂️ experience

The Drama

Some really inventive sound mixing and editing that I adored  As one of the few who enjoyed Dream Scenario Borgli once again explains the current state of the world and the internet in the most cringiest way possible except this time it is hilariously dark and ask deep relationship questions that make sense

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie

Look I knew this was going to be bad But i need to know how they butchered one of the most iconic and one of my favorite games of all time and boy did they butchered it  They managed to do jingling keys for practically everything but galaxy how do you do that They name dropped space junk galaxy and said they wanted to go there and never did. I never get to hear one of the best music tracks i have heard in my life  Character interactions are super quick like it bounced my head I genuinely don’t know what arc any character had Whatever I just wanna go back to playing galaxy again

My first Satyajit Ray film that I bought from Criterion  There is no way this film would be made today in India at least not received well by the majority like it did when it first released  Super interesting to parallel and be critical of the extreme form of religion and the patriarchy I love how the term Mother was used in particular, I love the some of the shots involving beds and Sharmila Tagore gave a truly haunting performance like there is so much to read from just a head tilt and a blank stare  Love this movie excited to see more from Ray

O Brother, Where Art Thou?

Odyssey prep also wanted to see how the Coens do it in their way

PlayTime

Genuinely one of the best looking films I have seen  Extremely funny and a very accurate look at modern day  Vibes movie but a more artistically driven vibes film at least for me

Project Hail Mary

Definitely see Lord and Miller’s visual style especially in the humor but i will admit it is a bit sappy mainly from the choir score and kinda long but damn it the relationship is really good and what made it work for me

Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)

First Iñárritu film and I picked a good film to start with  Some really great performances from Keaton Norton and Stone and the cinematography had me constantly guessing how did they do that While the themes and character study are familiar to me, I still wanted to know everything and it doesn’t feel boring in the slightest Overall, a good best picture win if Grand Budapest Hotel didn’t come out the same year, but it did so…

Fantastic Planet

Why ofc I would choose to watch this  weird abstract movie that has incredible animation, world building, score, interesting themes and allegories for extra credit how can I not

The Night of the Hunter

Some damn good lighting, set design and religious commentary but I will admit some of the child acting wasn’t great (Pearl obviously Pearl) but John was pretty good and Harry Powell, intimidating but a little funny easily the best part of the film

Started off as some regular Pixar film then gets insanely weird at least for a Pixar film Good Time

The Secret Agent

Finally finished the best picture noms I mean like everyone else, it is slow paced but gradually starts to get better with some damn good performance and direction Definitely understand all the noms it got even casting(though personally sentimental value should be there too) Good movie to think about

Forevergreen

Love the animation and the sound design As for the story and the music well its every story you heard of before

Toy Story 2

This is still probably the best one imo solely cause it started the themes that are still being continued on even if they don’t need to continue but we’ll see

I mean I can tell this was definitely a Sean Baker project but im ngl it did feel like an advertisement cause everyone happy in the end just with some great direction

Jane Austen's Period Drama
