'shes so evil, and she's only in high school!' instant cult classic in my eyes, very heathers-esque but that is not a negative in the slightest. this film lived up to my expectations and it was everything i wanted it to be. the costuming and set design, colour grading, editing, soundtrack, casting....it was all spot on, soooo camp, ily jawbreaker

looooove a horror and dance combo. it was everything i expected it to be! very fun & camp albeit silly especially towards the end but i liked the main idea. maddie ziegler was fantastic, what a great idea to have a dance moms cast member star in a film like this!! crazy fight scenes and fun set design…fully enjoyed!

Scream 7

Scream 7

my first scream at the cinema and it was a really really good experience. the screening was packed which was so lovely to see and the woman sat next to me jumped at every fucking thing, even the trailers beforehand, but she made it more enjoyable lol the shots of the ghostface mask looming in the dark, and through plastic sheets etc, were fucking sick and spooky as hell HOWEVER the trailers reveal way too fucking much nowadays so i wish i had never watched them to be honest as the only part that made me jump was gales entrance. veeeeeerry gory kills, the most insane ones out of the franchise, think final destination esque deaths. the whole cast was decent to be honest there wasn’t a single person i didn’t like and even better there was no overwhelmingly bad acting from anyone which ruined the last two for me. isabel may did really well as tatum and i particularly enjoyed asa germanns character too. but there was no attempt at actually making you really care about new characters like any other instalments of the franchise. moby’s first cool hive and red right hand making a return was much appreciated <3 having beltrami back for the score was a wise decision. onto the things i didn’t really love, having ai as a crucial part of the storyline then not doing anything to make worthwhile commentary on it…and then encouraging the audience and fans to use ai themselves as their marketing…. with the stu thing, as a stu lover, i feel as if we should’ve gone all the way with it or just not bothered at all. don’t get me wrong it was so nice to see him and others reprise roles, i just wish it was more like the original scream 3 script, with the bonus ai storyline, i feel it genuinely could’ve worked. i just watched a convention q&a with matt lillard and it sounds like he agrees and wanted more to be done with his role, he wanted to be the guy and i don’t care how crazy it seems i want that for him one day ! on reprised roles…no jill which is so upsetting to me. although i didn’t care for the reveal, and knew who it would be from the moment they were cast, they did channel her energy quite well to make up for the lack of jill. however that doesn’t mean the reveal was good. motive was shit and made no sense, probably the worst one so far. it didn’t quite hit the same as scream 2 when we also have a seemingly irrelevant background character as ghostface. but hey, maybe ghostface was just the friends we made along the way? overall, i enjoyed it as much as i disliked parts, ill always always love scream movies but it seems we really need to shake up storylines big time for this franchise to go on. it very much felt like lets do all the tropes AND something completely different and it just falls short. the modernisation is a bit hit or miss and they lean way way too much on nostalgia and have done the past two films - either move on completely or do something big and crazy with the past/legacy characters. bring back the fun, campy silliness!

Mermaids

Mermaids

‘i may be pregnant with the next jewish italian messiah!’ one of my mums favourites and im so glad i watched it with her, there were many moments between rachel and charlotte reminiscent of our relationship so it was a wholesome experience. the bathroom scene set up like a confessional and charlotte being physically unable to talk is just mwah chefs kiss for me. a story of sex, religion, family and how fucking cringe you were as a young girl with a crush. although jail joe what on earth do you mean he moved away to open a nursery ??? get him away from the kids jesus its hilarious how every one of winona ryders films i’ve watched recently consist of her narrating her inner monologue, i guess thats her niche. cher was absolutely stunning in every second of this film! and i can’t believe theres a film out there with both lydia and wednesday… my two childhood heroes in one place! hoskins was great too. beautiful casting, a really really nice soundtrack too. a funny, awkward but cute story & i’m very glad i sat down to stay and watch it with mother 🩷

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple

first cinema trip of the year! 🍿🎞️⭐️ ‘you ever get the sense that old jimmy is talking shite?’ carrying on with the themes of last film, dr kelson continues to live in somewhat peace with the infected. we’ve obviously seen the physical effects the infection has on people, but it was really interesting to tap into the psychological side of things as samson is essentially suffering with psychosis. i doubt the franchise will end with having a real cure to spread across the land and go back to what once was, i believe it was more a symbol of hope in a lost fucked up world, yet im very curious to see if thats the end of the line for samsons story or if he will come back craving the meds dr kelson concocted up for him. every scene of the two was so beautiful and so so enjoyable and im so happy we got a glimpse at the man samson once was. we learn more about the jimmys, and while they are all psychopaths we also get a look in at what they was like as children, as mentally, they still are. jimmy crystal desperately wanting to impress the rest of the group via his ‘connection’ to old nick and the rest of the jimmys lapping everything up like its a magical bed time story they might’ve been read as a child before the world went to shit. we get to lean more into the religious pov’s which is something i really wanted to get into when we see jimmy running to his father in the church, who sees the outbreak as judgement day. jimmy grows up and refers to the infected as demons which directly juxtaposes dr. kelsons storyline. overall another beautiful beautiful film, this time directed by nia dacosta, who managed to carry on the story and aesthetics perfectly unlike the second film lol. and that ending! as soon as i saw the house i knewwwww and very excited to watch the final part and see how they will tackle the ending of this gorgeous franchise.

‘yah, my ma's clothes all melted onto mine forming, like, this big polyester meteor in our closet, y'know?’ a genuinely hilarious mockumentary style commentary on how insane the american pageant world (and america in general to be honest at this point) looks to the rest of us. i knew this would be a good one when two seconds in adam west is on the screen! the whole cast were 10/10, amy adams in particular stuck out to me she really put her heart and soul into this! just found out this was her first film role too??? ridiculous dark twists but i reaaaaaally enjoyed this one. this is the third film from 1999 ive picked to watch by myself now and my god you guys had it so good, i’d be in the cinema every day.

Zoolander 2

Zoolander 2

still fun, but like most sequels, it just doesn’t live up to the first and honestly feels a bit unnecessary. the plot was very much the same and the only differences were quite cliche choices, and ben stiller seemed to forget how to do thevoice which is disappointing
