Once Upon a Time in the West

Talk about a slow movie. This was quite long. Some more action would have gone a long way. I still enjoyed it, but not to the same level thar seemingly the majority did. The train shot (actual shot… not film) was fucking sick. Don’t be asking about Frank. Still thought this was great. Just not his masterpiece. The score was top tier though. Leone knew how to get an excellent score for his movies. A shame he died when he did. As far as I’m concerned, not a single movie made by him that wasn’t at least good. 8.2

Once Upon a Time in America

This Noodles guy is a real piece of work. Sheesh. This dude STINKS. Talk about an absolute doozy of a movie. Felt like I lived a lifetime watching it. Just an epic all the way through. Nice action. Interesting plot. Good score per usual from Leone. I thought it was great. That hack was pretty good in this. Best character might have been the brother lmao. Also, no dentists in the neighborhood? What a time back then. And uhhh, nice timing on the intermission. Had a nice laugh when that popped on the screen. 8.1

Duck, You Sucker

What a duo. I thought this was fantastic. Juan was hilarious. The action was great. The explosions were awesome. Nice story. Maybe 5-10 minutes too long, but not much I’d get rid of. Bit of a stall in the end of the first act, but pretty much nonstop besides that. Big fan of this one. Shocked more people haven’t watched it. 8.5

The Colossus of Rhodes

Sue me. I thought this was good. Heavy Spartacus vibes which I also enjoyed. I liked this was an hour shorter lmao. Thought the action was entertaining and the plot was good. No egregious haircuts either. That weapon was pretty sweet; really the whole set was. Pretty remarkable this came out when it did. 7.4

Panic Room

Raul is an all time movie character lmao. Don’t fuck with Raul. Thought Leto was great in this. Jodie Foster was stressing me out with all her shady decisions. I really enjoyed this for what it was… a heist movie with some back and forth throughout. I don’t rate based on how the movies are shot aka the cinematography (look at my PTA scores lmao), but this had some awesome sequences of shots. Nothing but admiration for Fincher and his crew. Could this be a 3.5? Yes. Am I giving it 4? You betcha. 8.1

Boogie Nights

Not a PTA guy. Oh well I guess. I thought this was fine. Lots of coke went into making this. Simply too long. Tarantino’s criticism of Dano should have been aimed at John C. Reilly instead. Not a good actor lmao. I didn’t love the plot. PTA needs to go straight to horny jail. Dude’s unbelievable. Thought Buck was great. Had me cracking up. Certain scenes were ridiculous and I just didn’t love the flow much like Magnolia. Overall, a fine movie. A bit disappointed I didn’t enjoy it more. My filmography of PTA is now complete. 6.4

Aliens

Bit of a downgrade compared to the first. Story was not as interesting to me and just didn’t interest me as much as the original. This was too long. I got pretty bored watching it. Overall, it was fine. Nothing more. Nothing less. 6.3

Alien

Had to give this a rewatch on 4K. I understand why this is considered by so many to be a must have. It looks stunning on 4K. Hard to believe it came out over 45 years ago. A bit long (even though it’s sub 2 hours) for me. Wanted to like it more, but maybe just not my type of movie. Still a good movie, but not a fave for me. 7.6

Alien³

Pretty cool to see that Fincher had it from the beginning. Some of the shots were fantastic. The score was arguably the best part of the movie; absolutely relentless throughout. The movie was ok. I enjoyed the action. The plot was a little sus, but I actually think I enjoyed this more than the 2nd which is a crazy take. But yea, not a bad movie at all. Had some good laughs at the acting. 6.5

Inherent Vice

This was fine. Somewhat all over the place with a plot that really wasn’t all that concrete which I didn’t love. Whole narration thing was kinda dumb lmao. Thought Phoenix was great though. Dude is such a weirdo. Brolin continues to be the man. One of the great nepo babies. Katherine Waterston… BONK. PTA is one horny dude. Nowhere near PTA’s best, but certainly not his worst either. 6.7

The Lost World: Jurassic Park

Letterboxd rating is pretty spot on for this one unfortunately. Missing the charm and the magic of the first. Characters weren’t as good as the first. Plot was just ok. Had some good scenes, but not enough to consider this good. Dennis could have saved the movie lmao. 6.3

E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial

By far Spielberg’s best alien focused movie. Right back to my childhood watching this. Such a fun movie. ET the character is awesome. ET the movie is great. Not his best work, but I loved it. Elliot’s acting was a bit sus at times, but that’s pretty much expected lmao. Overall, great movie with a fantastic ending. 8.4

Schindler's List

Wow. I get the rating. What a movie. A slowish start, but once it got going it was just an unreal watch. Performances were amazing. Niesson at his absolute best. Fiennes was arguably better. The soundtrack was top notch. And the visuals were haunting and will stick with me forever. Spielberg’s masterpiece. Wow. 9.1

Munich

I mean this most definitely had some propaganda throughout, but I thought it was good. RECEIPTS lol. Had no idea any of this happened, so I found it interesting. A bit long (could have gotten rid of a scene or three) but overall has good action and some pretty crazy moments. 7.3

The Color Purple

Another movie of his I had never heard of. A shame because I thought it was great. Absolutely heart wrenching at times but a story of resilience. Nice acting all around. Nice characters. Really enjoyed this. A tough watch at times, but 100% worth a watch. 8.3
