Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery
Just as good the second time around.

Crime 101
Highly watchable, super sleek and fairly well written, unfortunately I imagine highly forgettable.. Characters lack a little depth, found myself not really caring all to much what happened to them. However did feel the tension building towards the end and good performances throughout. Also can't believe this movie was trying to tell me that Halle Berry isnt still one of the most beautiful women to walk the earth.

The Roses
Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch trying to kill each other what more do you need

Now You See Me: Now You Don't
Had moments where it intrigued me but mostly just fell flat, very uninspired and even uninteresting at times. Some great visuals including Isla Fisherand Dave Franco. Woody Harrelson definitely flexed that acting prowess at times and proved that his is the best actor in this ensemble, moments of where I really liked Justice Smith, as expected. Would love to see him in more. Apart from that there is little positives around this movie.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
Brain rot the movie. I really enjoyed the first one and was super excited for this one, with Super Mario Galaxy 1/2 holding a special place in my heart. But my god, was this movie a let down. It's a visually brilliant movie, with some great splashes of nostalgia music, but it's all wasted on this mess of a movie. Look, no one walks into this movie expecting the most tightly written screenplay of all time, but some sort of coherence would be nice. Charlie Day has really grown on me as Luigi, think he has been a terrific casting, whereas Chris Pratt... I really didn't mind the voice in the first one; it felt like he was at least trying, but in this one, I was just listening to Chriss Pratt. Rosalina deserved so much better than this.

Ad Astra
A visually stunning film that I feel let's some of it's more interesting plot points just fade into nothing, I would have loved to have learnt more about the mental state of Clifford McBride. This film leans heavily on an incredible performance from Brad Pitt, the quivering eyebrow as he sends that message to his dad, truly the work of a great. However, past Brad Pitts performance it just doesn't offer very much. It's an interesting introspective look into loneliness and selfishness, but for me never reaches the pinnacle of what it could have been.

Project Hail Mary
Ryan Gosling given one of his best performances, and dominated the screen for 2 hours, I would say that no came close to his performance but Sandra Huller does it, truly great performance considering the time on screen. The connection and relationship between Rocky and Grace was beautifully told, is it possible for Rocky to be nominated for all the awards? Soundtrack was brilliant, with some amazing needle drops. Incredible from start to finish.

Passengers
Jim Preston might just be the most dislikable protagonist of all time.

The Shawshank Redemption
Some movies just aren't worth the hype they are given, some certainly are. Shawshank is most definitely the latter.

Jackie Brown
Max Cherry got ice running through those veins, never blinked twice in that car.

Black Dynamite
Had no idea really what this movie was going in. Just made it all the more incredible to watch.

Jerry Maguire
Found myself saying multiple times throughout this film, "wtf am I watching?" But, I couldn't help but keep watching; something about it dug its claws into me, and it didn't let go.

Marty Supreme
Late to the party I know... This movie feels like the artistical embodiment of what Chalamet said at the 2025 SAG awards, not only a strive or desire to be the best, but a need. Something that comes from within that says if you aren't number one then you are last. Not only does he play a character who feels trapped by their world, and the choices people try to make for him, who only sees his way of escaping is this mission of being the best. But on top of this it is without doubt his most in your face, brash, unapologetic, look at me "I'm the king of this shit" performance, to date. You can see he used every fibre in his being to give this performance, but something in it just doesn't land for me. It could be the fact that I watched this movie with a cold, or maybe I have just had enough of the 'male character make the most insane, batshit crazy, deluded, incorrect and damaging choices all in pursuit of GREATNESS' trope. But I don't think it was the latter, due to the fact that as much as I found myself wanting him to make a different choice I also found myself wanting him to win. I just wasn't as moved by the ending as everyone else was. I wouldn't be surprised to see Chalamet walk away with the Academy Award for best Lead Actor, but I would still love to Michael B Jordan win it.

It's What's Inside
Some insanely clever cinematography, especially for a first feature.

Zootopia 2
Not quite as good as the first, but still plenty of moments that I loved. Also the Shinning reference was top tier.

Hamnet
I think it speaks to the true strength of this movie that I didn't understand many of the words that were said on that stage, but in the same breath, I understood them and what they meant completely. Jessie Buckley gives a performance worthy of the Oscar nomination that she has received I will be surprised if she doesn't win. Paul Mescal keeps with his usual theme to play the most broken men in human history. Now, whilst I think that the score by Max Richter does a lot of heavy lifting, especially with that closing scene. There are a lot of moments in this movie that I love. Those short 15-20 minutes where we get to see this family happy and at peace, truly magical. 2025 Ranked (https://boxd.it/Ev378)

Avatar
I'm sorry Mr James Cameron 9 year old me did not respect your greatness with my previous rating, I did not understand the power of what I was watching. Since Fire & Ash all I have thought about is the world of Avatar so it only felt right that my first movie of the year be this one. This movie is so good, I wish that I could permanently live within the magic world that is created in the first 2 hours of this movie. As 25 year who just had there first day back at work today after the Christmas break, I can see why people suffered from Post-Avatar Depression. There just is nothing like Pandora and nothing like Cameron when it come to world building. There are so many brilliant moments that I hope we see again in Avatar 4, but the main one is seeing Neytiri genuinely happy again, it was amazing. The first "ma Jake". Please give me a happy Jake and Neytiri for just 10 mins in the next one, please Mr Cameron, I beg you.

Avatar: Fire and Ash
Was better on second viewing, some is the dialogue was undoubtedly still very cringe, but I felt much more moved and connected to the story this time around.

Ne Zha 2
Genuinely one of the most ridiculously good looking movies I've ever seen, what the fuck was that last fight. 2025 Ranked (https://boxd.it/Ev378)
