The King's Warden
I've been waiting for this one for a long time, and I'm glad to say it didn't disappoint. Korean cinema is in a bit of a stalemate right now, the box office has been underperforming and the films coming out of the country aren't up to par with what they have been known for. This film is cliché, but the emotional journey and brilliant lead performances from Yoo Hai-Jin and Park Ji-hoon create a tragic tale and give us a glimpse into Korea's history. I only wish I loved it more, but the formulaic storytelling holds it back a bit. I'm glad this film is now Korea's biggest earner revenue-wise.

The King's Warden

Masquerade
Lee Byun Hun is definitely top 3 when it comes to Korean actors.

Thrash
Sick of boring ass Netflix movies that are boring and shit. This movie does nothing.

Air Doll
Not what I expected, I love films that seemingly lack a direction, which allows for what happens to feel organic.

The Beauty Inside
The film feels a little held back by its own premise Iykwim. But overall this was great, how Han Hyo-joo manages to have chemistry with 20+ actors and actresses just shows how great of an actress she is.

Obsessed
It’s romantic, but feels to underwhelming. They throw the soundtrack and emotional montages, but it all just feels too much for the little that were given.

The Singers
Music might be the greatest thing ever.

Passages
Really enjoy films where fucking idiots make stupid decisions and then get exactly what they deserve.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
When Ang Lee makes a beautifully devastating masterpiece I will be there. This is what action films should be. The action shouldn't just be good, it should be the main storytelling device, each fight should evoke the emotion that it intends to, and push the story forward. That's the problem with most action films, this executes it perfectly.

The Secret Agent
I saw a review that said this film feels like a disjointed song that goes back to the beginning just as you begin to click with it. I agree with that so much. Up until the last 50 minutes, I didn't understand this film's hype. Then the last 50 minutes happen and it all just clicks, the father's death only being shown through the newspaper clippings was smart, paranoia is one of my favourite aspects in a film, creating this tension that rises throughout to then only end in an unsatisfying way sucks, but it's also perfect. We don't get a satisfying ending, we just get what is. The tragedy in this is so matter-of-fact, here is a father who wants to be with his son, and you have this young boy who admires his father. Fast forward and you now have that same boy, now the age his father was when he was killed, and he doesn’t remember him. Having Wagner Moura play both the Father and Son just epitomizes the tragedy.
