Sentimental Value
sentimental value is one of those movies that quietly rearranges something inside you. it doesn’t go for big dramatic moments, the film doesn’t chase plot so much as it dissects its guts. it focuses on still faces, silences, and uncomfortable conversations in a way that really reminded me of ingmar bergman :D it trusts you to sit with the characters rather than spelling everything out, and that restraint makes it hit harder, and i really loved that about it in an era of overstimulation, and fast paced movies, sentimental value feels almost radical in its stillness. it’s a reminder that cinema doesn’t need to shout to be profound. sometimes, it just needs to sit with you in the quiet

If I Had Legs I'd Kick You
if i had legs i’d kick you saves its best trick for last. the last half hour squeezes the narrative into tighter and tighter emotional mess, until the film leaves you with no air left. that claustrophobia isn’t just for shits and giggles, it becomes the fuel of the story, pushing the characters toward a decision that feels inevitable. thank you, mary bronstein, for pushing the no-kids agenda onto the whole world… them kids are the devil
