The Theory of Everything

i started watching it with rather romantic expectations; i knew it had something to do with Stephen, but i hadnt imagined it would revolve entirely around him. that meant my expectations were higher than they perhaps should have been. the film isnt bad: at the start, it manages to create a genuine connection with the characters and a certain fondness for them. but as it goes on, too much starts happening, and that build-up ends up working against it. by the end, i found i wasnt as connected as id been at the start, and all that affection id built up deflated quite a bit.

i thought it was magical. i think a lot of that comes from the visuals: those pastel pink costumes, the whole rococo aesthetic makes the world of the film feel like a dream. its all so beautiful that it makes you want to be there. i also feel like the movie makes the album work better. listening to it on its own, there are songs that might not have had as much impact on me, but within the story they take on a whole new meaning. the combination of images and music gives them more power, and in the end i ended up appreciating the album much more thanks to the movie.

The Housemaid

this movie had me glued to the screen from start to finish. im easy to impress (or maybe just easily distracted), so the plot twist genuinely caught me off guard. some will say its predictable or familiar. i dont care. it works. Amanda is doing the heavy lifting here, and doing it beautifully. Shes fantastic. if Sydney’s performance had matched that same intensity, this would’ve easily been a 5/5 for me, but she still works within the story. i liked the way the story is told. it always holds something back, giving you something new to be surprised by as it goes on.

i found it boring. it didnt impress me as much as the first one, and the deaths didnt feel particularly impactful.
