DATE AND SWITCHis a somewhat refreshing take on the teen sex oath trope. You know the one I mean. The “we should to lose our virginity by prom!” thing. It’s been done many times before, most successfully in the AMERICAN PIE film series which this film did seem to invoke the spirit of at times. What I found to be refreshing though is that the plot here is one of them is gay. I’m a big fan of “Once a cliche becomes gay, it is no longer a cliche.” and I stand by that here. It was nice to see a gay character in the kind of movies I would have had to sneak off to watch as a kid. It’s not a massive step for representation, (I actually found it to be less gay than I wanted, considering the plot) but it is definitely something that has not been done frequently. Also, Nicholas really caries this for me, he really is one of the most underrated comedic actors and at this point I’ll watch anything if he’s in it.
