Diary entries forCry-Baby
Cry-Baby
Immense amount of heart, Greasier than ever. Bigger-budget Waters still quite defiant. The rebel iconography is hard to swallow, but it's also a gonzo version of it weaponized against Square sensibilities. Its cartoon successes or failures are nearly immaterial when measured by volume of single, solitary tear.
Cry-Baby
Cry-Baby manages to impress me in ways that I didn't think it was possible of. For the longest time, I have been wanting to get into the filmography of John Waters, but really haven't found the film that I wanted to start with. My roommate has been wanting me to watch this film for some time, as well as some managers, so I carved out some time to finally watch it. Cry-Baby was not what I was expecting at all - I was expecting something along the lines of Grease, which it is, but this is a different being entirely. Knowing Waters' style, it's clear to see that this is one of his films, with his quirky characters and direction that truly make it memorable. I was surprised to see how short the film was, which went by in the blink of an eye. I didn't have much expectation for the film, but the overall aesthetic, as well as tight script and fun atmosphere make the film worth the watch.
Cry-Baby
i had a good time! definitely very campy, lots of funny moments and i wasn’t expecting the singing.
Cry-Baby
Not my favorite John Waters film, but it was finally divine to see Johnny Depp at his sexiest (greased up in tight blue jeans and leather anyone??) and a Susan Tyrrell in her most natural state. It felt a bit too tame, the humor, the backbone of the entire story. It was his most PG movie ever, in a bad way!
