Tron

Tron for me was disappointing. The visuals are quite interesting for the first ten minutes but after that become more stale and boring, the budget probably had something to do with the way this looks but it’s hard to watch after a while and feels like adults in a children’s play area. The story is strange and not explained very well, many people who have reviewed this admit to having no idea what is really going on, something about hacking into other tech companies using the master computer? It all just seems very random but I remember liking the sequel so I look forward to watching that next.

Tron

Tron is certainly a movie a lot of people are mixed on. You either love it or you hate it. But anyways, the films revolves around Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), a video game designer and arcade owner who tries to hack into his company's system to search for proof that he invented a hit video game after finding out that Ed Dillinger (David Warner), an executive at his company, stole his work. But in doing so, Flynn gets zapped into the digital world, where he must face off against Dillinger's computerized likeness, Sark, and the imposing Master Control Program. Along the way, Flynn is aided by Tron (Bruce Boxleitner) and Yori (Cindy Morgan). So, Flynn becomes a freedom fighter for the oppressed programs of the grid. One thing I admire about Tron is that it was one of the first films to incorporate computer generated imagery, which was very expensive at the time. Granted, it certainly doesn't hold up as well now, it was certainly an impressive feat. One problem I have with Tron is that it's a little slow near the end, and the action isn't really exciting. But other than that, I still recommend Tron.

Tron

Tron is a groundbreaking achievement in film, with it being among the first to feature extensive computer-generated imagery. It's an important step towards movies like Toy Story or Avatar. When removing Tron from its original release and considering its importance, it becomes a very subpar experience. The movie features some beautiful art direction, thanks to being filmed in 70mm black and white for the computer world, which was then digitally painted onto it. This creates the unique look of the humans, armor, and backgrounds that are featured throughout. The CGI, despite how it is in its infancy it is at the time, feels fitting of the world and leads to interesting sequences with the intent of highlighting it. This doesn't save the story. The plot of the film can be quite difficult to follow. It often has characters just suddenly doing a task, due to an unestablished motive that isn't explained, or just done to make the world appear more fleshed out than it really is. The one that comes to mind is when they find a pool of water, where if they drink it, they gain "power"...because they are computer programs. This "power" and what they can do with it isn't really explored or explained what it means for them to gain "power". Following this, a character shortly dies, while the others remain virtually the same. The motives and the actions done by the characters leave much to be desired, which leads to a very unsatisfying ending. If someone gels with this, I do understand it. It's undeniably quite a novel feature, and the visual aspect of it continues to be original over forty years out from its release. However, due to the story and characters feeling unrealized, it leads to a more lackluster and dissatisfying experience in my opinion.

Tron

Really liked how this looked. Shame about the rest of it. Was just bored throughout really, didn’t feel anything for these characters. Ah well. I would die for the Yes/No Bit though
