As we enter into the split timelines of the Ringu franchise, we really start to see the different ideas that people had for this series. We were taking into a psychological route with Spiral, offering much more atmosphere than scares. Ringu 2 abandons the psychological for traditional scares, which ends up hurting the film in the end. It’s still an enjoyable film, but one that I really didn’t think they could do much more for the next film, where Spiral had more to offer for future films.
