Diary entries forThe Passenger
The Passenger
A ridesharer picks up three women with struggles bound for the same village. They stop after seeing a meteorite (the youngest passenger, a daughter, proceeds to touch a pulsating blob that came from it and appears to get an infected finger in the process). They later pick up a new elderly passenger after accidentally running her over. Then things get bad and even more grotesque Didn't know what to expect, was surprised by the body horror and how fast things go to shit. Drags a fair bit in the last act thinking it'd be better to get a fair 90 minutes when having a bit less near-death misses would have made for a better, albeit shorter, story. But I can't complain much, this gets gross as hell at times and it's a fun ride for long enough

The Passenger
It takes 20 minutes for an identity to be stolen from a dead man. Wafting in between past and present. Memories that live and breathe in the present. Discussions of weapons in a church. Halfway through, I felt a bit drowsy, waking every so often from the crook of my partner's comfort. I'd catch a glimpse of beautiful scenery, from place to place as a young Nicholson aimlessly wanders away from his identity from being recognized. The tones here were off. Was it because Antonioni was working in another language? Was crime too much of an ordeal that he needed to nestle in romanticism to ease his own tensions of the film? Filming in heat? Sand down his throat? Sweat cascading down his back? Who knows. A trite and tedious watch, but will not detract my desire to see L'Eclisse.
