Imagina uma obra que combina vampiros, um clima gótico, com cowboys, num cenário Steampunk e um mundo onde vampiros são uma raça milenar que possuem famílias de linhagem extensa e são chamados abertamente de ARISTOCRATAS... some isso a um subtexto de exploração dos mais fracos AKA camponês e discussões sobre "pureza racial" e pronto, pode servir. Não só isso, aqui temos uma obra que foi inspiração pra muita coisa. Podemos ir de vampiros modernos a até filmes trash de terror (a mão zombeteira me lembra demais Evil Dead 2, mesmo que não seja a inspiração direta) e o visual que eu tenho certeza, que foi a base pras artes de Castlevania na época da Ayami Kojima (se não foi, algo bem perto). Junte isso com um gore bem estilizado característico das animações japonesas da década de 80 e que é extremamente divertido e um dos detalhes que eu acho mais cativantes, a relação do ímpeto sexual com o desejo literal pela carne por ser um "vampiro"... Olha que sabor! Fui atrás de bronze e encontrei ouro.

obsessed with the world, atmosphere, and character design (except doris, i could’ve done without the over sexualization of her). but everything operates on the rule of cool and while it leads to audiovisual masterpiece, it does end up being style over substance justa little. still very very cool and perfect for the october season.

❝When years cease to have meaning, boredom is a mortal foe.❞ · · ─────── ·𖥸· ─────── · · Well. That was...interesting. I love anything to do with vampires, so I thought I'd watch this film as it's considered a classic. And while I loved the story, I wasn't a huge fan of a lot of the characters. I first watched the Japanese dub, followed by English dub, and I can safely say that Doris was the most annoying character in the film. Why was she wearing the skimpiest outfit in the world to fight monsters? And why did she have to whine every time she opened her mouth? I did really like D; he had a cool character design, good voice-acting and some cool action sequences. The rest of the characters didn't really stand out to me as much, although they were still pretty great. The animation wasn't the best, and I'm so thankful for how far animation has come nowadays. With that being said, it was decent and I did like the monster designs. Vampire Hunter D has its ups and downs, but I'm glad I gave it a go and I'm excited to watch the sequel.
