The Fly

SPOOKTOBER #6 Seeing a human slowly turn into a fly had me feeling queasy the whole time. This was some next-level nightmare fuel.

The Fly

Gory, disgusting and entertaining, the fly is a film which most horror fans can enjoy. The story is well paced, characters entertaining and plot as crazy as it is fun. I enjoyed this one and recommend all horror fans to give it a watch.

The Fly

Before this watch, I hadn’t seen this movie for more than twenty five years, I think. Though I liked it a lot as a child (so much that I immediately rented the terrible The Fly 2 and got super disappointed), for some reason I never felt the need to see it again. It might be because I still vividly remember many parts of it. There’s nothing much I can say about this body horror masterpiece that hasn’t been said thousands of times already. The practical effects are amazing, each new stage of Brundle’s metamorphosis more gooey and disgusting than the last. Plus, the arm wrestling scene will forever have a special place in my heart. It’s one of the reasons I refuse to arm wrestle to this day. The jagged white bone sticking out of the arm is such a good allegory for Brundle losing his humanity and becoming the Brundlefly. Goldblum’s performance is expectedly weird, his mannerisms even before the splicing feeling a bit insecty. The way he speaks about “the flesh” has just the right amount of growing megalomania and pseudophilosophical religiosity. A brilliant psychological counterpart to his physical (d)evolution. Though its much less engaging than some of Cronenberg’s other movies (like the super famous anti-McLuhanian Videodrome), it’s such a fun watch.

The Fly

The born of a superhero called The Brundlefly Man. I blame The Fly for whatever happens to him. This is why you should do an experiment in a sterile area rather than in your house, so there's no some disturb or error in the experiment that will make you look disgusting. Cool body horror movie, but imo this is the most disgusting looking body horror. Anyway i need an epilog, the ending is so short, i wonder what happen after that.

The Fly

Simultaneously one of the most disgusting and impressive displays of practical effects and body horror I've ever seen.

The Fly

In all honesty, The Fly terrified me. There are few movies that I've seen that I can say genuinely frightened me. I can now add The Fly to that list. One of the most iconic films of all time, as well as one of Cronenberg's most accessible, The Fly tells an extremely simple story, but with clever crafting and fantastic acting, becomes a really original story. Goldblum blew me away in this. His chemistry with Davis was just electric, even when it came to the horrifying finale. Both seemed to be just perfect to play with each other. The rest of the cast was very good as well. I really was surprised at how small of a cast this actually had, since Cronenberg's film usually have larger casts (well, other than The Brood so far). I think what scared me most about this film was the effects. They were just spectacular. I couldn't believe how realistic the effects were at some times. While there were some effects that really did look cheesy, there were some that were just terrifying. If you're going to do a creature feature, you really need to have some great effects, and I think that The Fly was able to successfully create some fantastic practical effects. In all honesty, The Fly just disturbed me at times. I've never had such a reaction to a film like this before. There have been times that I've been scared, but not disturbed. I can now say that I've had a movie actually disturb me to the point where I may have to watch something to "cleanse" myself of what I just saw. Nonetheless, The Fly is a film that has stunning effects with a top-notch cast, and yet another fantastic film from Mr. Cronenberg.

The Fly

Horrendous in the most sickeningly fantastic way!! A massive improvement on the original film in almost every way. Jeff Goldblum is so good in this, you'd think he were actually part fly - with all his twitching and such. The effects are gruesome and gorey in the best way. Some great body horror stuff here, to the point where I gagged a bit. I appreciate that this film cuts right to the chase because the original was far too slow. This one has much better pacing. It's basically it's own thing, only borrowing minor things from the first Overall, the better film and much more nasty! Also I'm pretty sure this film and "Beetlejuice" have solidified my crush on Geena Davis

The Fly

This was violently disgusting. I honestly would’ve given this half an extra star if he rubbed his hands and face.

The Fly

So weird. This film I've always heard great things about but I gotta say I didn't get that much out of it. The story was interesting. I liked the whole fly thing. All the teleportation and fusion stuff was interesting. The main cast were pretty enjoyable for their roles. The effects looked good and gross at the same time. I always thought this was more of a like outer space film from just seeing the posters. I did know it was mainly horror, yet I feel like this had no horror at all. I don't consider body horror horror tbh. Not unless its combined with normal horror. The whole fly thing I found more funny than scary lol. Just because of the brundlefly name and how weird it looked for most of the film. Some parts do get pretty dark with a fake fly abortion but that's more gross than anything. I don't know why but this just felt pretty bland too me. I dont think it was necessarily bad or anything but it just felt like I was waiting for more. I mean I enjoyed the film but idk maybe its because I've watched way too many films recently. Or maybe I just am blind and didn't see what I was supposed to. I still enjoyed a decent amount of this weird body horror 80s film tho. Also I couldn't decide between 3 or 3.5 so I left it at 3 for now Reminder the good thing about movies is that everyone views them differently.
