The Lady Vanishes

Classic Hitchcock, this has it all. Good mystery and suspense which keeps you guessing throughout. The cast work very well together and overall this is an underrated gem of Hitchcocks. To say this is from the 1930s is unbelievable. It’s also one of his funniest film, which fits well with a train thriller. Fantastic cinema.

The Lady Vanishes

When Gilbert said, "Whatever you do, don't fall asleep." I felt that, because I too was trying really hard not to do that. I've just been having a bit of an off week when it comes to films — the reason why I settled on Hitchcock, since he had been consistently reliable on reigniting my passion & love for cinema, but it didn't work this time. (Maybe cinema really peaked with httyd 3) For a Hitchcock film, this was unusually devoid of suspense and thrills; was rather predictable, except for the cool motive/identity twist. It took a while for it to get the mystery and action rolling - didn't instantly pull me in. However, it successfully used that time, to put forth the dynamics between its main sets of characters. Overall, I don't regret watching it but don't care much about it either. Will say though: I liked the detail to make the train sound to be more like a scream - spooky. I am probably alone in this, but in a few frames Michael Redgrave reminded me of Paul Dano...so there's that.
