Diary entries forDawn of the Dead
Dawn of the Dead
Not to be dramatic but I would literally die for Chips the dog
Dawn of the Dead
I love zombie movies but I couldn’t tell you a single thing about this movie after just watching it now. I remember a montage at the mall and then an explosion towards the end. Something about the editing and colour grading made me disassociate. Will not watch again.
Dawn of the Dead
There was a point while watching Dawn of the Dead where I thought that this could be the greatest zombie film ever created. This isn't the first time that I've said this with Snyder, as I consider Watchmen to be the greatest superhero film to be released. This feeling seemed to dwindle as the film went on, getting to the point where I had lost faith that this was the best zombie film ever created. The biggest problem that Dawn of the Dead faced was the characters. There were some very strong characters, but there were just as many weak characters. In a zombie film, there is a need to have a connection with the survivors, as they really are the last people left alive on Earth. There always is going to be the "bad guy" in the film, but the "bad guy" here was honestly terrible. There was no redeeming qualities about this character, ultimately making them a character that nobody could like. Humanity and the persistence to live is a big key in zombie films, but it was hard to find humanity with all of the either boring or just terrible characters. Zombies are something that I really have stopped liking, as this craze really has seemed to go on for a while. There have been some great zombie films, like 28 Days Later or Train to Busan, and some equally terrible ones, like The Walking Deceased. You just have to take these films with a grain of salt. Dawn of the Dead feels like a passion project for Snyder, really showing that this film was an influence on him. It's a shame that the film didn't live up to its full potential, as this really could have been a fantastic addition to the zombie subgenre.
Dawn of the Dead
A dawn of the dead remake with screenplay by James Gunn and directed by Zack Snyder? Count me in. Ngl to be completely honest I might have enjoyed this more than the original. It improves a lot from the original. However the original did do the whole mall plot way better. I did want to see a modern version though. The zombies in this have got to be probably my favorite version so far. Mainly because they can full sprint at you in this. Actually adds a sense of fear. The nonstop chaos of this film was pretty sick. The blood/gore was pretty normal for the most part. The characters however were pretty meh, the main group cast was good but then they introduced all those stupid characters just to make the kill count higher. I did like how they tried to implement some emotional scenes to make me care for the characters more, not a lot of the zombie films do that. I really liked that whole relationship between Kenneth and Andy was pretty funny. I also liked how this kinda mixes Day Of The Deads ending with Dawn of the Deads plot. Cool to also see cameos from Tom Savani and Ken Foree

Dawn of the Dead
It’s not just that this pales in comparison to the original, but that it’s also not very good when met on its own terms. Maybe it’s just my own issues, I have never liked fast zombies, and I’ve yet to see a film where I enjoyed fast zombies. Slow shambling ones are just scarier. The film seems to have that same grey/blue/green filter slapped over it that so many films in the 2000s had. While 2000-2010 was great for international horror, it is aruguabky the worst decade for mainstream American horror, and this film in no exception. There are some good sequences and moments, but overall, it just doesn’t work for me. Oh well, such is life I suppose.
Dawn of the Dead
babies zombies around
Dawn of the Dead
“quando não houver mais espaço no inferno… os mortos caminharão pela terra.” não é tão bom quanto o filme original de 1978, mas ainda é bom!!
Dawn of the Dead
those scenes with that version of ‘Down With the Sickness‘ playing in the background… absolute cinema
