Diary entries forThe Tree of Life
The Tree of Life
The only movie where a dinosaur, the Big Bang, and daddy issues all show up uninvited.

The Tree of Life
Very happy that this is my first Malick film
The Tree of Life
The ham-hock whispered poetries here aren't my cup of tea, and Malick's "universal" tapestry-grafting of entire cosmological and evolutionary timeframes to an exceeeeeedingly narrow slice-of-white-life in the 1950's is a diminishment... but then the rushing force of Smetana's Moldau inevitably kicks in and I am bowled over once again by how gorgeous it all is. The kids are fantastic, Pitt's a force to be reckoned with, the light is filtered through every available leaf or billowing drape or lock of mother's hair, the camera at hip-height and chasing down all available Americana boyhoods. The direct 2001/Blade Runner/Star Trek connection of Douglas Trumbull for the cosmic imagery, coming 'round for more visual experimentation and imagination after three decades away? Fantastic!
The Tree of Life
this movie succeeds in telling a story without a bunch of talking, in every scene i can feel the emotions pouring out. that last scene did a number on me.
The Tree of Life
Finally i finishing this movie, this movie is like you're in philosophy class learning about human and life. I can't with this family cuz how their father thought them make them like that, the problem is at the dominance father. The movie feels surreal and hard to understand, kinda bored too but after that you'll be understand and maybe feels empty, the last scene is so aesthetically wonderful like "Am i in the heaven now?" Meaningful movie about life.
The Tree of Life
Criterion's Extended Cut. Malick and Lubezki had the hability to present real life as a portrait and the camera as a toy, but experiment things as if this is the first time. So beautiful, powerful and exhilarating. This expanded cut is, still at its slow pace, proof of that. This is clearly one of the best on the decade, and possibly, of history.
The Tree of Life
I'm utterly speechless. I have rarely had a film completely leave me in awe (Persona is the only other film to do this to me), yet The Tree of Life has left me without words. I'd try to formally review this, but I honestly can't find the words to describe this film. Malick may have a reputation for being pretentious, but this shows how completely wrong those people are. I am shocked at how cheap I obtained this film ($2.88 for Blu Ray/DVD), since this is certainly one of the greatest films I have ever seen.
The Tree of Life
movie of a lifetime
