My daughter enjoyed this, the little Ochi guy was cute; reminded me of Gizmo from Gremlins crossed with a monkey. Some great shots in here, and bonus points for it being original, but at the same time kind of a nothing burger.
The Legend of Ochi
The Legend of Ochi is a remarkable little film. With simple storytelling techniques, we are transported into another world which feels deeply rooted within folklore. With a mix of fantastic practical effects and wacky plot elements, this film absolutely thrives. It’s an emotional film, a sometimes scary watch, but one that I loved every second of. It’s a shame that there was little to no marketing done for this film, since it felt like the first true “A24” film that they’ve distributed in a long time. It was reminiscent of their early catalogue, which is when I started to really notice them as a distributor. I genuinely cannot wait to give this another wach, since I enjoyed it so much this first time.

I really hope this at least gets a Best Cinematography nomination. This style of filmmaking is something so incredibly new and unique that it needs to be celebrated.

Ce film A24 vise clairement un jeune public, mais je crains que les enfants ne décrochent rapidement… Malgré quelques longueurs, les paysages des Carpates sont magnifiquement filmés. C’est là que le film brille vraiment : sa photographie oscille entre le style de Steven Spielberg et celui de Wes Anderson. Quant aux créatures, ce sont de véritables marionnettes, dans la lignée des bons vieux Gremlins ou de Yoda. Outre ces points positifs, et malgré la présence d’acteurs brillants comme Willem Dafoe, le film souffre réellement de ses longueurs et d’un scénario qui s’éparpille un peu trop.

Screw the live action remakes of the season take the fam to see this instead !!! 🔥🔥🔥 Maybe Im just a sucker for puppetry, beautiful visuals, and slightly off putting female leads but i had a blast ❤️ Visually stunning, from the landscapes to the ochi themselves it was a feast for the eyes. The musicality of the film is not only integral to the plot but also powerfully executed in the wonderful score. plus the baby ochi is so cute it had me crying from the moment they met. And straight up sobbing by the end. My only complaint is that some dialogue was hard to decipher but i survived so it wasn't no thang
