The History of Sound

I enjoyed this but it seems many others didn’t. Sure, it can be slow at times and feels like it goes nowhere, which in trust it doesn’t really go anywhere, but I’m surprised to see so many slating the acting. I didn’t think anyone gave a bad performance, sure, Paul Mescal gives the same performance he’s given in every film he’s ever been in, but it’s not bad just starting to get repetitive I guess. The story is… okay. It almost feels like a film which didn’t really need to be made but was anyway, there are moments to enjoy and I didn’t leave the screening thinking it was bad by any means, but it definitely isn’t great. The prologue is also far too long, feels like it drags on for about an hour when it definitely isn’t that long. Still, I’d say it’s worth a watch.

The History of Sound

Ouch it hurt my heart, but my boredom is more a lot than my hurt feelings about this movie, it's literally snoozefest and flat, like there's no build up or heavy conflict, no climax, i had to play it fast cuz it's just singing, but that singing will bring back memories later, love the ending. I'll blame the war for whatever happen in this movie, stop the war.

The History of Sound

I went into this film with relatively low expectations, and was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it at the beginning. Paul Mescal and Josh O’Connor’s characters have a natural, tangible chemistry that made watching the genesis of their relationship entertaining to watch. But it doesn’t take long for this film to devolve into the same tragic queer love story we’ve gotten so used to. It’s unfortunate because after it’s become apparent that this is the case, the movie begins to feel overly long and overwrought. I enjoyed the performances (especially Josh O’Connor) and the songs, but this won’t be a film that sticks with me.

The History of Sound

i just wish they had dwell into every parts of the story; the ethnomusicology had intrigued me the most however every transitions between years and decades felt like just summary of what happened than to emotionally connected through the folk songs hence it felt undelivered. but it still did a number on my eyes, gay longing during world war 1 - the great depression era is always my jam....

The History of Sound

❝Would I feel differently if we hadn’t met? Would I feel now, that I had missed something? But we did meet. And what do I want now? I want the sound of my life, I think. What happens to it all, all the sounds released into the world, never captured? I want all of it. The history of sound.❞ ۫ ׅ ⊹₊˚‧ ︵‿ ₊ ୨ ᰔ ୧ ₊ ‿︵ ‧˚₊⊹ ׅ ۫ I love me some Josh O'Connor but The History of Sound is just ok. The plot was pretty formulaic, if I'm being honest, as was the ending (though I'll admit it was still sad), which meant that the two hour run-time felt like an eternity. The cinematography was beautiful, as was the soundtrack, but the cast really saved it here; O'Connor and Paul Mescal gave touching performances that were crying out for better writing. I don't think I'd watch this again, but if you're a fan of either of the lead cast members it'd be worth giving it a go.
