You Won't Be Alone
"It's a burning, hurting thing, this world. A biting, wretching thing. And yet..." If The Tragedy of Macbeth had the creepiest portrayal of a witch this year so far, You Won't Be Alone has the most heartwarming one Goran Stolevski's feature debut depicts an elderly, burnt up witch hardened by this world and its cruelty reluctantly using her one chance at making someone else a witch on the baby of a would-be victim. The transformation we witness over the next 100-odd minutes is nothing short of enthralling/captivating as the baby grows up to be a teenager, changing along the way into a woman, a man, a dog, a kid, and back into a woman, all in an attempt to grow as an individual and experience life (and love) in all its fascinating ways (including the childhood she herself never really got to have), further and further aggravating the old witch that turned her in the process Embracing every drop of water as though it was her first or her last. Staying shirtless because while having gotten clean is a new sensation he enjoys, he also didn't mind the earthiness to begin with. Cuddling the animals whose blood they need to survive because killing's far too cruel and easy, compassion's all too nice and rare. Every image its own story, every frame a painting. Beautiful all of it. Even at the bloody parts
