A Bay of Blood: A Ranking of Slashers (1974 - 1990) (http://boxd.it/IoH8) Klaus Kinski is a certified creep in this claustrophobic but ultimately underwhelming slasher—in fact, during the moments where his character would play russian roulette with himself, I prayed he'd lose. Crawlspace doesn't open with the most interesting set-up, engaging in little likable characters and instead focusing on its demented serial killer—I've never been a fan of when slashers do this, making it hard to root or find interest in the character's spotlight, despite it working in cases like Maniac or even Motel Hell. From the rattling, Jaws-like music in the opening, it doesn't actually reach the promised craziness until its final fifteen minutes, and even then, it's terribly predictable and sorely lacking. Of course, Crawlspace is at its best during these last moments—seeing Kinski's character fly through the vents is a pretty scary sight, no doubt. In the end, this is just one forgettable slasher with one really, really bad sex scene. 2.1/5
