Unknown Dimension: The Story of Paranormal Activity

Let me start out by saying I don't like Paranormal Activity. I have seen all of the movies, but the only film that I thought was good was The Marked Ones. That being said, it is hard to deny the impact the series has had on the film making, from other horror movie rip offs trying to cash in on its success to influencing other genres like Chronicle and the Sci-Fi, and Project X with comedy. Given that, I was curious to give this documentary a shot and I am glad I did. The Doc starts out with a history of found footage movies, and then moves to a discussion on a film by film basis with interviews from the directors, actors, writers and producers. Some are very candid about their experience being good or bad. You can tell a lot of passion went into each individual project. Fans will certainly want to check this out, but I would urge non fans as well. It is well made, funny, and there is just something heart warming about watching people be passionate about creating something that they love.

Unknown Dimension: The Story of Paranormal Activity

I actually found Unknown Dimension to be a lot more informative than I was anticipating it to be. Diving into the origins of the Paranormal Activity franchise, we get to see unseen footage of the making of the entire franchise, and given a peek behind the curtains at Paramount and how they wanted the franchise to go. While the films themselves lately haven’t been anything to write home about, it’s still very interesting to see how the filmmakers have been trying to build the lore and keep the franchise interesting.
