The Girl Who Got Away

There's a version of The Girl Who Got Away that's just a slasher film. It could have won me over There's a version that's just a slow-burn look at trauma and how to overcome guilt. It could have won me over (and in fact there have been multiple films the last few years, not just this year, that did exactly that! I thought they were great!) There's a version that's just a semi-homage to giallo that plants doubts on if the narrator's reliable or if the killer worked alone or if the protagonist is really as sane as they appear. It, too, could have won me over Trying to do all three at once, and extending it all to damn near two full and slow hours, in the process making most of the characters you meet unsympathetic (due to either unlikability or untrustworthiness) and for exceedingly excessive amounts of time? Nah, now that's where it falls apart For the first half of it Lexi Johnson's at least a compelling, albeit uncertain, protagonist while Kaye Tuckerman's brutal for the brief time she's onscreen murdering. Like I said, just focus on something like that, and for not for as long as The Girl Who Got Away was (and felt), and this works out pretty well in my opinion!
