Diary entries forRocco and His Brothers
Rocco and His Brothers
Very compelling, Visconti is amazing with its direction. What the tagline said: "BREATHTAKING IN ITS SCOPE." It's very true; the cinematography here shines, and the composition and blocking are astounding. I think Alain Delon is better while speaking Italian rather than French.
Rocco and His Brothers
The experience of watching "Rocco and His Brothers" is very overwhelming. So much is going on, so intensely complex, and with so many emotions, that it really feels like we're watching an opera. Totally Masterpiece From Luchino Visconti.
Rocco and His Brothers
“I love you…” A beautifully crafted three hour epic about brotherly camaraderie, familial ties, and a deep rooted sense of love for ones country and culture. Rocco and His Brothers is a delicately composed Italian neorealist film directed by Luchino Visconti – a well regarded Italian director responsible for films such as The Damned, and Death in Venice. The film may dive a little into the melodramatic by the third act, but the emotions are raw and Luchino Visconti’s direction is incredibly moving. Carried by some magnificent performances from Alain Delon, Renato Salvatori, and Annie Girardot, Rocco and His Brothers stands as one of the most memorable Italian films to come out during the 60’s – it was also cited as an influence for Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather, which looking back on it now is pretty clear. The biggest sin this film makes is having someone bash around Alain Delon’s face - I’m positive that is seen as sacrilege in some places. Watched in 2022 Ranked (https://boxd.it/eMxr8)
