Diary entries forGreat Freedom
Great Freedom
what a poignant story, a haunting ending, stellar performance by Franz Rogowski, beautiful poster; this film has almost all the package.
Great Freedom
even in a place as cold, desolate, and unforgiving as prison, love can bloom. the tenderness that comes from friendship can be found. a slow, simmering, methodical piece of gay filmmaking.
Great Freedom
Tragic ending, even with freedom, he remains isolated, choosing to go back to prison because that's where he feels he belongs. To live in a world where you are judged for who you love.
Great Freedom
Everytime it went dark, I thought my eyes had closed on their own. Like the world shut off its humanity for a heartbeat. Everytime the night got cold, chills crept down my arms. I don't know what it means to be free, to taste it, to feel it, for the first time again. But I know I want to try and try and try to feel it again, with you. Every weekend I wonder if you are there and alone enough to be with me. *What does it mean to be trapped in the queer body? This is it. This is what it is. Start to finish. That finish. A French exit in metaphor and a harsh one at that, one that made me cough a laugh and shake my head. My mother will never know how I feel. My father will never know how much I've been trapped, still, in this broken little self. Years and years, I've just been kintsugi-ing these mirrored shards with old glue sticks and preschool tape.
Great Freedom
