Diary entries forThey Live
They Live
A fun time with lots of cheese and action, They Live is 80s film captured perfectly. Still unsure to why Frank was so scared to wear sunglasses and would prefer to fight for several minutes instead but he may have just been scared of the truth. Could tell Holly was evil, she had that look in her eye. That finishes Celluloid Screams Classic Horror Movie Marathon 2022, which was very enjoyable with my beautiful girl.
They Live
Might rewatch it again sometime, later on. Needed to be in a different mood for it.
They Live
"They live, we sleep" Poucos exorcizaram as contradições do capitalismo e a nocividade do imperialismo estadunidense como John Carpenter.
They Live
"The golden rule: he who has the gold, makes the rules." “I’m here to chew bubblegum, and kick ass. And I’m all out of bubblegum.” Might just be the greatest line in any action movie ever. This film makes a striking social commentary on capitalism, consumerism, mass media, classism, and the hidden powers that control our world using one of the most unique premises I've seen in a long time. Switching from color to black and white when the glasses are on or off is genius. The black and white scenes really give this a "Twilight Zone" vibe, which adds to the horror. This movie has it all; action, sci-fi, horror, a killer score, visual effects, one-liners, "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, and the man/myth/legend himself Keith David. Funny how even though this is satirical, the subliminal messages here are just as relevant today. If someone tells you to put on the glasses, just fucking do it instead of fighting them for 15 minutes in an alley.

Eles vivem e continuam vivendo…
They Live
“Brother, life’s a bitch. And she’s back in heat.” This is just Carpenter having fun.
They Live
Despite my favorable rating of the film, I’m quite torn on “They Live." On one hand, it boasts anti-capitalist satire, great action, precise cinematography, outrageous comedy imbued with on-the-nose mockery, and a generally enjoyable watch! On the other hand, this movie is a slog at times and can’t decide between being a serious critique of society or hamfisted comedic parody of it, which leaves it feeling disjointed at times. Some character choices happen so fast that you almost get whiplash, while others take 5 minutes (and a lengthy fight scene). There are also some bizarre editing choices here as well - some work and others, specifically an abrupt scene at the end, work very well. Overall I had a great time with it, but it left me wanting a bit more. The ending sequence is very great meta-textual stuff, though, which I really enjoyed! "All the sex and violence on the screen has gone too far for me. I'm fed up with it. Filmmakers like George Romero and John Carpenter have to show some restraint."

They Live
"They Live We Sleep" This was so much better than I could've expected. Besides the alien part I would believe this is a true story lmao. So many things fit today's world ngl. The horror aspects were pretty good. But the Sci-fi was very unexpected. This was made way ahead of its time. Nada is a badass main character and I absolutely loved his ending. The actual ending was great seeing that big reveal. This film is more of a warning than anything to todays generation. Too bad its gotten way worse. Especially that money scene. This has some imagery that I see everytime I walk outside. John Carpenter has done it again. Such a phenomenal experience and has already been added to my rewatch list.
They Live
after a certain point i was about to think that the rest of the movie would be them fighting in that alleyway. and I was just like. “okay then” this aged pretty well which is not all that great if you really think about it.
