Les Misérables

While the running time may be quite terrifying, Les Misérables is a truly fantastic film. Les Misérables has a special place in my heart, as it is one of the first musicals I can recall watching (I had seen some, but this one I truly paid attention to). Since the first time I watched this, I was in love with it. I tried the book (it's a monster as well, a monster that I haven't conquered yet, but have read the abridged version) and it was amazing, just as this is. The songs are amazing. It is a bit daunting, with a 2 and a half hour long film of constant singing, but once you go into it, it feels quite normal. I honestly don't notice the singing anymore, unless it's a song that I dearly love (and there are more than a few). The casting was fantastic. I was a bit hesitant writing fantastic, as I still am a little confused about Russell Crowe, but he was great in this, just as everyone else is. Anne Hathaway truly stole the show, giving one of the most memorable performances of all time, in my opinion. It's interesting to hear these actors actually sing, their raw voices, instead of being pre-recorded, which adds more emotion to the performances. This adaption could have completely gone south, being a horrible rendition of the classic play. But, in Tom Hooper's able hands, this film becomes stunning. Les Misérables is one of the greatest musicals of all time, with this adaption truly highlighting the vast importance it has.

Les Misérables

First time seeing something in Dolby Cinema! The picture and sound were awesome!  I liked this more than I thought I would. The cast was mostly excellent. Russell Crowe can’t sing but oddly enough, I liked his voice by the end of the movie 😂. The ending was bittersweet, but I’m glad Jean accomplished what he wanted to. I do kinda wish that there was some actual dialogue in between the songs rather than constant singing, but it works fine. The set design was extremely well done.  8.5/10
