nic cage is fantastic per usual i find this concept so fascinating and i think it’s portrayed in a really interesting way. plus the way it’s tied to social conversation without ever feeling the need to preach is genius i loved the comedic style i just found myself wishing there was more of it, idk if thats a complaint as much as the movie leaving me wanting more. just a thought that ending was beautiful and painful man. this is a good one

A24 really got David Byrne’s suit back onto the silver screen not once, but twice this year. Pretty interesting idea that is well executed for the most part. I wish they had given a bit more time to some things but other than that, it’s good. It is a bit confusing at times, especially towards the end, where it derails a little bit. I believe the derailment was on purpose though. The ending/final scene was beautiful. The final line was heartbreaking. “I wish this was real.”. 7/10

Cage brings it again, unsurprisingly. Beautifully filmed and edited, I am really curious to see what surfaces on a second viewing. Kristoffer Borgli is firmly on my radar, and I am going to make it a big point to check out SICK OF MYSELF as soon as I can. 2023 Ranked (https://boxd.it/kiMdu)

Such a delightful and funny movie. Nicholas Cage can enter my dreams anytime. Also, all in favor of making it illegal for big pop artists putting their concerts in theaters, say aye because Beyoncé’s concert played throughout the course of the fucking movie.

A wonderfully unique premise about a rather ordinary man, Paul Matthews (Nicholas Cage), appearing in people’s dreams, who quickly gains an unprecedented amount of newfound stardom. Kristoffer Borgli’s DREAM SCENARIO has a distinctly absurdist tone reminiscent of a Charlie Kaufman project, minus his more sophisticated approach at storytelling, that explores themes all about impotence, masculinity, relationships, and (more bluntly) cancel culture and fame. My main issue with the film is mainly that, after the initial premise has come and gone, I felt as if the it spreads itself too thin in its attempts to explore all of these themes (and seems to focus more so on the less interesting theme of cancel culture throughout the film, which TÁR has already done with much more interesting results) as well as generally losing focus around the third act before just simply ending unceremoniously. Nicholas Cage is generally great in this, at times giving it a little too much, and manages to bring a very inspired energy to the film. Michael Cera is also very good here, actually playing some type of character rather than just Michael Cera in front of the screen. A highlight here is Julianne Nicholson, who plays Janet Matthews (Paul’s wife), especially in the way she effortlessly conveys some very complex emotions towards her husband, never feeling two-dimensional in the slightest. Overall, I enjoyed this quite a bit, but I don’t think I would go out of my way to watch it again.
