Like in fairy tales?❞ ❝You know, when you truly love someone, no matter if they love you back, the important thing is making them happy.❞ ⊱ ──── . ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁ ⟡ ݁ . ⊹ ₊ ݁. ──── ⊰ I was pretty excited to watch Arco since it's been nominated for an Oscar, and while the animation is absolutely beautiful, the film as a whole was a bit underwhelming to me. The concept is definitely there, and I loved the different visualisations of the near and distant future on Earth. However, a lot of the story felt very generic and done before: alien/futuristic child lands somewhere on Earth, regular child finds them and tries to get them back home, regular child's parents oppose their plans, and in the end the children succeed. There weren't many elements of the plot that I haven't seen in other films, and for that reason there wasn't really any tension or suspense being built and I was left feeling a tad let down. That being said, the voice-acting was excellent, as was the soundtrack, and as I already mentioned the animation was gorgeously done. All in all, not a bad film by any stretch of the imagination, but not what I was expecting, either.

incredibly beautiful animation with COLORS. story felt a bit flat to me, but i enjoyed it nevertheless. happy to see such a colorful film :)

La animación deArco es verdaderamente preciosa, me gustó muchísimo y me recordó al estilo de algunas películas de Ghibli. Me gustó mucho como habla acerca de las conexiones humanas y la importancia de preservar nuestra humanidad, creo que es un tema importante en la época en la que vivimos y en esta película se muestra de una manera muy accesible y funciona muy bien. Creo que su mayor error es que tiene un ritmo un poco inconstante que no me termina de convencer, pero cuando funciona lo hace de maravilla.

Es inevitable ver esta película y pensar que tiene una cierta influencia del cine de Miyazaki: fantasía, aventura, un mensaje sobre el cuidado del medioambiente, personajes con conflicto con sus padres, etc. Justamente esa comparación le juega en contra porque Arco tiene el potencial de una narrativa más compleja pero simplemente toma un camino sencillo. Aprecio mucho la animación independiente, y el trabajo visual que esta cinta presenta es muy bueno y bastante interesante como desarrolla varios de sus conceptos como el contraste de dos épocas distanciadas por casi un milenio. Pero todo esto es desarrollado con un conflicto algo trillado donde el tiempo le juega mucho en contra para explorar a este viajero perdido del tiempo.
