Highlander
There's so much endearing qualities about this I couldn't help but fall in love. The amazing soundtrack. The cheesy fights. The cheesier dialogue. The beauty of New York in the background of these idiots fighting because there can be only one This ain't a perfect film. But it is the most perfect Highlander

I hadn't watched this all the way through since I was 12. Kind of wish I hadn't rewatched and had just been left with the vague feeling that I liked it. Because oof, this is bad. And not even a "it's so bad it's good" kind of way. I get it, it was the 80s. But the direction is horrible, and the script laughable. I can envision a better version of this existing, and maybe one day with the reboot in development, it will. The concept is too good to go to waste. Now I'm afraid to rewatch the other one that I also remember vaguely liking...

“There can only be one.” It amazes me that I’ve watched this film probably like three or four times and every time after I do I forget everything about it, including how terrible it is. Genuinely fascinates me. I suppose this is due to the fact that on paper this should be completely my jam top-to-bottom. But the execution is so…boring? Outside of a few scenes it’s very forgettable. Even still, I have a soft spot for it. It’s earnest, it’s corny, it is so fundamentally 80s. But in the end nothing comes together quite as I’d hoped. Helps also that I have an aunt who got me into this series back in like, 2006? So I’ve seen most of the films right up to The Source. (None are good, by my recollection. But we’ll see.) I must say though, the core idea of Highlanderis quite brilliant and I’m to see what the upcoming remake does with it. I mean, it couldn’t get much worse!
