Caramel
I honestly had so much fun watching this slice-of-life film. It's a very different take on Beirut, painting a portrait of a city filled with life a vibrancy, where many other films show it as bleak and lifeless. I do understand that a war did occur after this film was shot, thus creating a different city entirely, but it's still nice to see "normal" life. Labaki stunned me with Capernaum, and shows yet again that she can handle herself behind the camera, as well as on the page and in front of the camera. It's filled with a lot of charm, chemistry, and love that radiated throughout. MUBI has been putting some high quality content on lately, and I'm glad I caught Caramel before it disappeared, since it really is a fantastic film.
