i saw this sometime after it came out many years before i saw john carpenter's original. i decided to rewatch it because i couldnt really remember anything that happened in it except for the scene where the old lady crumbles. the thing is this movie is lackluster but its not one of those movies thats so bad it angers me. there are a few decent scenes and i like what they were trying to do even though the execution failed.

Watching this after watching the original honestly was a great experience because I got to see just how good the original was. Less is more, always. The films are nearly identical in runtime, and yet the remake is just overstuffed with nonessential elements and scenes that do nothing to add to the narrative. Not only that, the movie loses its sense of foreboding because modern writers must explain everything to you like you’re an idiot. And while the original was light on action for the first hour or so at least it had ambiance and characters were allowed to have actual, natural, conversations with one another. The ending was also entirely different and not half as clever as the writers thought it would be. Tom Welling so fucking hot though so ultimately who cares! Take your shirt off!
