The Whale
most of the time i got so emotional is when hong chau is in the scene and in that one samantha morton scene, such great actresses. that ending was so unserious though cause wtf is that? plus this movie just doesn’t make sense to me because what was the story they were trying to tell? not only that but i don’t think this is the obesity story, obese people wanted to tell. brendan fraser i love you but you don’t deserve that oscar nomination for this.

An unbelievable film. The performance by Brendan Fraser is flawless, the score is beautiful and story is heartbreaking. I’ve always been a big fan of Darren Aronofsky and this may be his best work yet.

O filme gospel no nível mais rasteiro - essa posição da câmera, estratégica o suficiente para tornar Fraser ainda mais imenso, como se fosse uma criatura - , sensacionalista - a decupagem do Aronofsky atua de maneira exploratória no acompanhamento da rotina do protagonista; existe um prazer mórbido por vê-lo se alimentando de forma bestial, por encará-lo como uma aberração em seus modos de agir, de se locomover pela casa; essa fotografia escurecida que converte a casa do personagem em uma masmorra de terror, quase um purgatório punitivista que desfruta de vê-lo sofrendo das mais variadas maneiras - e histriônica - o desfecho com a "ascensão" do protagonista que tem uma pulsão pela postura hiperbólica da encenação para infligir desesperadamente algum sentimento ao espectador que vá além do mais absoluto desprezo e a mensagem de superação que é entoado como um discurso de resiliência elaborado pelo Pablo Marçal; e o resultado final é análogo a isso aqui (https://youtu.be/D6zpk0nk2PE?si=33cD7cfyIkljvFXh). Se Réquiem Para um Sonho se estabelecia como essa propaganda moralista, The Whale é completamente perverso, canalha e repulsivamente desumano.

I waited quite a bit for this film and although I was not disappointed, I have to admit that it fell a little short. Brendan was magnificent, a great way to get back on the big screen. And the whole cast was incredible, It shows that Sadie Sink has a promising future as an actress. I cried a lot with the father-daughter relationship, more than I thought I would cry, but if I have to say a complaint, there is a smallness of the end that does not end up convincing me and I cut off the whole sentimental moment.
