We're All Going to the World's Fair
We're All Going to the World's Fair
i was getting to the point where i was almost wanting to pause every other minute to jot down notes on my app on what i was feeling about this but the one thing i keep coming back to is this is maybe the first time i've seen any media (film, TV, music, book, whatever) so accurately Get the feeling i had a) growing up with the Internet at my disposal as an escape from the loneliness my young queer heart felt in a less-than-kind home and b) realizing in real-time over time that 1) this was great and this was awful, and 2) that the lines between the two sides would blur at random for all the faults, for all of the inescapable and 24/7-broadcast atrocities and awareness that nothing's ever getting better, for all the bullying and harassment anonymous (and sometimes-not) campaigns, and for all the run-down jokes there are on this web. for all the bad. i still wouldn't have met some of the best people in my life, still wouldn't have had some of the longest friendships i've had, still wouldn't have been alive because of some of them, without it. the best thing in my life is likely also the worst thing in my life, and i wouldn't be alive without it even though it's unquestionably and actively making my quality of life worse; how does one find comfort easily in describing that, let alone coming to grips with it? this is an 85 minute look at two lonely people and their own explorations of that dilemma. go in with patience, but go in all the same. please
We're All Going to the World's Fair
We're All Going to the World's Fair

We're All Going to the World's Fair
Was trying to figure out why this was so bad and found out it's the same director as I Saw The TV Glow and was like ah that makes more sense 💀 (W for Alex G and the random scene of Casey doing a homemade mv. That part was so fun)
We're All Going to the World's Fair
We’re All Going to the World’s Fair paints a haunting portrait of a modern teenager, attempting to fit in with society’s standards, while so desperately wanting some shred of attention. It’s a film for a modern, young viewer, which is why I think that there is a disconnect for many who end up watching it. It’s a film for Gen Z, for them to understand, discussing growing up within the digital age, which other generations cannot fully grasp, as much as they think they can. It’s a brilliantly put-together film, opening the door to conversations about online idenity, the impact that social media and the desire to be seen by peers has on a child coming of age, as well as the responsibility of older generations to ensure the protection of younger people while being online. I definitley saw a thread running through the film about discovery, whether it be literal, through an older man, or figuratively, through discovery of one’s true self, mirroring the internal struggle and eventual coming out that the director themself went through. I wish there was a little more with the film though, it had a fairly quick runtime, and I wish there would have been a little more time spent with these characters, since there is so much to say about all of the topics that came up. I can completely understand why this film has a disconnect with many who watch it, but as someone in the gray zone between the Millennials and the Gen Z, I understood exactly what was being put out, while still being able to see it from a different generation’s perspective.
We're All Going to the World's Fair
Alright folks it's September, which means I get to start watching horror movies in preperation for October! Let the pre-game commence with "we're all going to the world's fair" I don't think it was awful but I feel like it was just too long. Every scene drags a bit too much for my liking and it's clear there was more focus on the "aesthetic" than the story being told. Don't get me wrong, I love the camcorder look and the score but everything else is pretty weak in comparison. I think the internet ARG inspiration is cool but it never truly goes anywhere. It's just a lot of scenes of nothing really happening at all and left me feeling bored through the entire film's runtime As you all can see, we're off to a good start...
We're All Going to the World's Fair

We're All Going to the World's Fair
Anna Cobb is truly fantastic in this. Jane Schoenbrun proves to be a great new voice, their script and direction deceptively simple, while managing to be very unsettling. There’s a hypnotic nature to this film. I want to watch it again and see what else I may mine from it. Fantastic score. Can wait to see what’s next from both Anna and Jane. 2022 Ranked (https://boxd.it/fSyMM)
