A perfect blend of funny and sad, LMS creates a story which you can’t help but enjoy. The whole thing is so well written it’s pretty astonishing, and the cast is absolutely top tier. Children’s beauty pageants are one of the most twisted and disgusting things which happen legally by the way, s*xualising children is so wrong and I don’t understand how it’s normalised in America. Nether the less, a great film.

Um Road movie que junta uma família de pessoas que já não se dão tão bem quanto antes. Um sonho infantil de ser uma miss. Um pai que é um coach fracassado e que a família está falida, todos unidos em uma van amarela, o que é intrigante por si só, uma família tão desajustada cercada por um pedaço de metal ambulante que irradia a cor amarela e nada está bem. Adoro a forma como o filme deixa explícita essa cultura de "tudo bem encher a cara de uma criança de maquiagem e expôr ela ao ridículo, mas dançar uma música que 'adultiza' uma criança aí não". É a contradição entre forma e conteúdo que deixa tudo melhor e ver a família se unindo pra dar apoio a filha e achar um ponto de convergência é algo genuinamente fofo e divertido.
