Hooptober (4/31) --------------------- Things are gettin' hungry out there! I still have so many films to explore on the subject, but that lingering, slow-and-steady camera work giving us the feeling we were engaging with some zombie bedrock material. And I think it was the actual shark wrangling that locked us in our seats, sealing the deal.

There’s a reason why this is one of the most influential zombie films ever created. It’s use of tension and gore created a dynamic that wasn’t exactly present in Night of the Living Dead, creating a much more exciting zombie experience. Voodoo definitley was a different take on the genre, but I bought into it. It’s a shame that I waited so long to watch this film, since it honestly was a fantastic addition to the zombie genre.

HOOPTOBER #4 ZOMBIE MOVIE 4 ___________ running awful late with this challenge. alas, this is what I expected. getting back to Italian horror (which will make frequent appearances throughout this challenge) with a pretty decent zombie movie. it’s what I usually expect from Italian horror at this point: somewhat stilted dialogue and kind of bland protagonists that are made up for by some really good gore effects (splinter to the eye anyone?) and also a zombie fights a shark. not making this up, you can see it for yourself. it’s on tubi. poob has it for you.

There's a fully masked corpse, from head to bottom, wrapped in rope and resting without motion as it lies on a bed. Still and veiled from light — until, a sharp jerk of the upper body as it begins to sit up straight. In an instance there's a loud bang as a bullet plunges into the air and through the head of the body. Cue the opening titles, and as soon as "Zombie Flesh Eaters" appears on screen, it's apparent what exactly that thing was. One of the cruelest and coolest films in zombie cinema — a gross descent into the most gruesome kind of living dead madness. With little plot it still manages to churn through a simple but classic game of zombie charades and delicacy that any horror fan should gawk at. This might have my favorite looking zombies in film — the dusty and raggedy clothes meshed together with their rotting appearances makes for an absolutely amazing and terrifying look. A very in-your-face experience for sure — it's a toss up between this and The Beyond for my favorite zombie horror from Lucio Fulci, but this one might take the cake solely because of the underwater insanity it wickedly decides to sneak in.

The dead never stay buried in a Lucio Fulci film. As always, the godfather of gore depicts it in stylish splats of grotesque bewilderment, with the fantastic, freakish, and bleak world of Zombie featuring that grade A gore. And like any other undead Fulci flick, the finale is booming entertainment.

A classic zombie flick set in the tropics. Great moments though I wish there was a bigger budget for makeup. Horrifying moments with intense imagination. *Loved the bathroom scene with a nod to Un Chien Andalou (https://letterboxd.com/film/un-chien-andalou/).

OKAYYY SFX! This was a fun ride with perfect editing. At points, its slow and kinda lost my attention. Overall, really enjoyable. Not as much as the beyond. That score is good, cool concept too. The kills were also great!
