Something's Gotta Give

I want to live in that kitchen. Pretty sure the fake beard I wore as a 15 year old in my high school production of The Man Who Came to Dinnerwas more convincing than the one on Nicholson. Terrible green screen Eiffel Tower.

Something's Gotta Give

This was one of those comfort movies that played out on TBS that I always half-watched on the holidays. I'm beginning to think that Myers begins her movies with situational kernels that happen in passing at dinner parties. She then just crams all that she can within these kernels until they hopefully become popcorn. She usually has too much going on that it's hard for us to focus and so, we're forced to sit real close and tight with everything to let it unfold in its own way, kind of like listening to your drunk aunt tell you a story with too many different tangents. I usually have no problem with this in literature, but it's a problem with Myers' work because she has very plot-heavy situations. The kernel is already the momentum and she tries and tries to keep us up with it through humor and ridiculous situations that seem to pile up on top of the already good kernel. I mainly watched this for Diane Keaton who embodies much of Myers' work completely. And I will never forgive her for letting her run off with crusty Jack instead of drop dead gorg young Keanu.
