The Village
Shyamalan entende que tanto o pacto social quanto o cinema tem em comum uma coisa: uma farsa. Cinema é a arte que melhor sintetiza o conceito de enganação, mas uma enganação bem feita te encanta. Te prende e te cativa, esse é o filme mais classudo em termos de narrativa do diretor. Cada plano, cada composição de tela e cada sentimento posto em tela é algo que te prende do começo ao fim. Seja a forma como a câmera capta essa sociedade que, em um primeiro momento, parece ser um povoado de época que tem seus vícios, seus costumes, suas tradições com um viés sobrenatural que ronda a narrativa. Porém se o elemento fantastico em outros filmes do diretor é algo que domina a tela, a fantasia aqui é algo 100% metafísico, fé na bondade e na maldade das pessoas tomam conta do texto e o elemento sobrenatural é tal qual o cinema em sua concepção, farsa e enganação, mas uma farsa e enganação lindos. O plano final capta todos os sentimentos e pensamentos que se estendem ao longo de todo o filme, tudo isso em uma única cena! Lindo!

Nada é suficiente pra dimensionar o quão singular é o sentimento que apenas um plano pode causar no espectador (https://youtu.be/VDn4FJlB1lw?si=a91EbW4ynOof4wwp); ou Ivy e Lucious entrando na casa em câmera lenta, de mãos dadas cenas depois dela comentar que ele nunca mais fez isso desde que eram pequenos (https://youtu.be/vY1MyBTbILA?si=z-4l1tl0rRuzD3Nv&t=62); ou a Sigourney Weaver fechando o punho ao ver que o William Hurt não segurou sua mão na festa; ou o enquadramento onde acompanhamos Ivy descobrindo o segredo envolvendo as criaturas da vila. O resgate da ingenuidade dramática, contida nos gestos minimalistas da mise-en-scène, onde os pequenos atos adquirem uma dimensão extraordinária. A última fagulha de inocência em um mundo consumido pela desgraça. Ainda vale lutar por quem amamos.

This felt like a Shakespearean stage play (in the best way) up until the twist, a delightful romance with Shyamalan’s signature style. I feel like with a rewatch I’ll enjoy it even more.

HOOPTOBER #7 CULT/CONSPIRACY FILM 2 __________ was kind of expecting this to suck but I honestly didn’t hate it? hot take maybe. a film that goes down better as a drama rather than a horror/thriller film. this film is really beautiful looking, with some great scenery and costume design to boot (found out the costume designer for this did the costumes for Midnight Cowboy, so even when I am not thinking of that movie I cannot escape it) yeah there’s a twist and all which i think is to be expected from these kinds of movies, but i feel like it has something to do with this like…idea of what tragedy can do to a community and the lengths people go to to keep that stuff hidden. also this is basically a love story, i mean the relationship that the main character has with her love interest is very sweet and romantic. when he grabbed her hand through the door it was like. awww. i believe in love 🥰 stacked cast on this too! joaquin phoenix? sigourney weaver? adrien brody? jesse eisenberg? damn, lots of familiar names here.

I did like it, but it drags a bit in some spots and loses steam towards the end, however the cast was a huge standout, especially Adrien Brody. The twist was kinda cool except they didn’t spend enough time with it, plus I may have spoiled it for myself by looking at IMDb before watching 😂. 6/10

Decent enough film. Stellar cast. Twist is somewhat inevitable/obvious. But easy to watch.
