Diary entries forThe Ten Commandments
The Ten Commandments
so it shall be written, so it shall be done ༄ ⊹ they definitely dont make biblical films like this anymore. the grandeur and scale of classic hollywood cinema never fails to amaze me. btw towards the end of watching, my dad told me that he once played golf in maui with charlton heston and i had to pause the movie for a moment, i was completely taken aback
The Ten Commandments
Land o' Goshun! Heston with the snipes, Brynner with the swagger. How many times seeing this monolithic thing on VHS or formatted to fit ye old TV... first time seeing it in its original ratio and with any degree of clarity. Maybe my first time seeing it at all in 20, 30 years? Revelation & Revelry. DeMille out here bestowing his own scripture, splendor and bullshit colliding at scale, God fashioned in Mid-Century Man's image. A very informative picture in every way except what was intended.
The Ten Commandments
Bless the quarantine, for letting me watch and rewatch long-a$$ masterpieces. And this one, it's definetely that kind of masterpiece that the movie industry doesn't make anymore, or at least, not often.
The Ten Commandments
It was really good. Kept me entertained. I looked at a review which said it looked like a stage play which I couldn’t get out of my head half way through. It was still good when taking that perspective
The Ten Commandments
You know Holy Week in my household is starting when Grandma pulls this up and make us watch it. 😭 I'm not even religious anymore but I still find this is film beautiful. The colors, the effects?? The only downside still — even after all these years — is that I'm fighting against my sleep while watching this film.
The Ten Commandments
a bit too on-the-nose religious at times, though very well paced for almost four hours. lawrence of arabia is the superior epic but this was worth the time.
