"vamos, é hora de levá-la. e amarrem bem as pernas dela. não se pode confiar nos homens nem com um cadáver." a primeira coisa que pensei quando vi a gangubai defendendo outras prostitutas foi naquela frase: "se a dor do outro não doer em mim, eu desconheço o amor." gangubai kathiawadi é, acima de tudo, surpreendentemente bom para algo dirigido por um homem. eu li em algum lugar que você sabe quando um diretor ou produtor genuinamente ama mulheres, pois isso se mostra em suas obras, e esse filme inegavelmente me provou isso. a fotografia pelos olhos de sanjay leela bhansali — de quem eu já tinha ouvido falar muito bem — não peca em momento nenhum, assim como sua direção. há muita beleza onde supostamente não deveria ter, e isso é muito bom. alia bhatt — de quem também só ouvi coisas boas — é fenomenal. ela trouxe muita profundidade à personagem e conseguiu transmitir toda a força dela. uma atuação verdadeiramente linda, diga-se de passagem. é um filme sensacional. eu genuinamente não entendi as críticas negativas... não senti que houve glamourização da prostituição, e sim uma realidade crua do que mulheres são obrigadas a passar em vários lugares do mundo. ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ "vivam com dignidade. nunca tenham medo de ninguém. seja a polícia, a assembleia legislativa, ministro ou cafetão. não tema ninguém. quando mulheres são a personificação do poder, da riqueza e da inteligência, o que faz esses homens se sentirem tão superiores?" ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ absurdamente tocante e lindo!!! vou carregar comigo esse filme e muitos de seus monólogos por muito tempo. finalizo com uma frase que levo muito para mim: "não serei livre enquanto outra mulher for prisioneira, mesmo que as correntes dela sejam diferentes das minhas."

Never fear anyone.❞ ❝Her destiny was filled with sorrow, but she smiled her way through life.❞ ⊱ ──── . ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁ ⟡ ݁ . ⊹ ₊ ݁. ──── ⊰ I know this film gets a lot of mixed reviews, but I think it's well-executed and broaches important themes. Gangubai Kathiawadi is a powerful biography of the cruelty of prostitution, and the woman who fought for the rights of her fellow workers. In my opinion, the film doesn't necessarily try to glamorise prostitution, nor does it attempt to make Gangubai a feminist icon; rather, it portrays the reality so many girls and women were forced to endure and treats them with the respect they deserve. That's not to say the film doesn't have its flaws; it glosses over the transition from Ganga to Gangu very quickly, and I would've liked to have more time spent exploring Raziabai and the elections, because their arc could've been brilliant. As with most of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's filmography, the film is absolutely stunning, with a beautiful colour palette and the grand costumes and sets one would expect from the director. I'm not a huge fan of Alia Bhatt, but I have to admit she did an excellent job in the title role, and her performance brought me to tears several times; on the whole, though, the entire cast except Ajay Devgn were fantastic. Overall, this is a film with a very important message that I highly recommend giving a watch if you haven't already.
