Had a blast watching this! It was tense, funny at times, and just great all around. Hope the sequel is just as good especially with all the advanced tech we have now.

A perfect example of how cheap direction and clumsy acting can completely ruin any interest in a movie. Honestly, I barely made it through to the end. And yet, for those years, there was huge potential that the studio missed.

Genuinely don’t get the lack of enthusiasm for this one. I went in with low expectations, but wow, there’s incredible tension building here. During the last 10ish minutes I fully hit the locked-in dad pose for the first time ever. Biggest flaw here is the lack of character work, which I don’t think is too surprising for a disaster flick. I cringed, I gasped, I yelled holy shit at my screen—what more can you ask for?

Cult of Personality 2024 (https://letterboxd.com/allbeef/list/cult-of-personality-2024/) #18 of 52 | Bill Paxton (https://letterboxd.com/actor/bill-paxton/) Unfortunately, it really doesn’t get good until about an hour in. Everything from the drive-in onward is captivating to watch. Most of film has pretty subpar 90s special effects, but there were a couple moments especially towards the end that really blew me away. All in all, it’s corny, it’s dated, and it’s a decently fun time. Kind of makes me excited to watch the new one!
