Boys State

An absolutely intriguing documentary, Boys State shows how male teenagers in Texas would run a campaign for governer, and man, is it a wild time. Seeing how, even at 17 or 18, most of these young men have an idea of how they would fare in politics, using tactics that modern politicians use to try to get their party to win. It’s interesting to see how a mainly conservative area produces so many different ideas, and how those are challenged when others are put into leadership roles. It’s disheartening to see that some were willing to dive into racist tactics, rather than let people run as they are, especially knowing that these are just young adults, making you wonder exactly how they would fare in this same situation after living on their own, rather than with their family. Boys State is definitely worth the watch, giving great insight into this generation, as well as how modern American politics are worked. I’d love to see another documentary showing how the girls created their campaigns, since abortion seemed to be a highlight for many of these young men (even though they shouldn’t have a say whatsoever on this topic).
