Diary entries forThe Orphanage
The Orphanage
With this movie i really confirmed that ghost/horror drama stories are my thing.
The Orphanage
Guillermo del Toro produces a ghost movie that really isn't a ghost movie. The Orphanage has been called one of the best modern horror movies. So, of course, I need to see it. While watching it, I tried to see why it's considered the best. Maybe it's the camera work. Maybe it's Belén Rueda's portrayal of the mother who is trying to figure out what has happened to her son. To clarify, this is not a horror movie. At all. I'd consider this a drama/mystery. It draws from horror movies, but isn't itself a horror movie. I think that's what makes this film really enjoyable. It pulls from many different genres, creating a being that you really don't know what it is. I think what I enjoyed most was the cinematography. It was just stunning. It was extremely easy to watch, like taking in some fresh water. The desaturated colors really influenced how I felt, which I really actually enjoy. You could feel the depression in the air; you could feel the unknowingness of everything. The Orphanage is a spectacular movie, but isn't what it seems. Instead of a ghost movie, it's really just a drama. But still, it's worth the watch.
The Orphanage
A little draggy at times, but the central story is good, and Belén Rueda does a very good job with the material.
The Orphanage
moral of the story: never take your kid to an orphanage or boarding school or they’ll turn out sick and twisted ❤️
The Orphanage
