Troy
75/100 Watched the Director’s Cut. I don’t really know the difference compared to the theatrical but I’m sure this is better because a director’s cut almost always is. Let’s start with Achilles, the aura was off the charts, when he came to rescue Briseis from the soldiers, no one even dared to go against him and many more moments that defined him as the hero. But surprisingly enough, my favourite character was Eric Bana’s Hector. You know how there’s always the best looking man on the losing party’s army who’s the second best soldier in the movie, that’s Hector. He was brave, honourable, respectful and fearful, not fearless but fearful and that made him calculated, that made him the best leader in the movie by far. His death was anticipated but a sad one nonetheless. Diane Kruger was absolutely gorgeous but forget her, let’s talk about fucking Orlando Bloom. That man played a total badass as Legolas in LOTR and played an absolute pussy the next year in Troy, talk about range… absolutely pissed me off but I’m sure he did everyone. Rest of the cast was great, some prominent and big names all of whom are great actors. The budget was 170-180 million back in 2004 and it really shows because the sets, the grand scale of the armies, the constructions, the fiery spectacles, the bloody battles all of them were a treat to behold, a bloody spectacle to witness. I thought they made an excellent use of the money. The music was great but perhaps they could’ve shot it more aesthetically, even though it’s war on sand, could’ve looked better but maybe that’s expecting too much from such a chaotic story as it is. Also, upon a bit of research, I know this is historically inaccurate on many counts but who cares? It’s based on a bloody mythological poem, most of this shit probably didn’t even happen, sometimes the spectacle is necessary for the film to work, you had to make the Hector death memorable, you had to give a chance to make Achilles look honourable, it’s movie magic and I don’t blame em. What I do blame em for however is the relatively poor second half of the film. There was mixed moments of empathy, enhanced respect when it should’ve degraded, oversmart and spoon-fed dialogues. Don’t get me wrong, it was still interesting but my anticipation for the part I was most looking forward to - The Trojan Horse had died down by the time it arrived, I don’t blame the runtime, it just got unorganised and rushed after Hector’s death. Regardless, a grand war epic and now knowing that Odysseus, Sean Bean’s character is probably the main character of Nolan’s the Odyssey makes me very excited for what he will bring, turns out he’s the real hero. Time to do a bit of reading and patiently wait for the Nolan spectacle and arguably the greatest adaptation of the Odyssey ever.

Everything is Paris fault, seriously 🙄😠 Seriously and even is they didn't return to Sparta when he first told Hector what he and Helen did there where other instances where certain characters took the sound advice from Hector everything wouldn't have gone to hell. The real MVP was Hector and sadly he was the one that the tragic fate fell into even though he didn't provoke any of it.
