Renfield

Renfield starts slowly, but definitely improves as it goes along. It does have some funny moments and Nic Cage is great as always, but overall it’s a pretty mid flick. I’d give it a watch but can’t see myself ever revisiting, maybe one day.

Renfield tem a versão mais caricata, abusiva do Drácula e Queer do personagem (assim como diz as escrituras sagradas) e isso é de longe a melhor coisa do filme. O texto sobre relacionamento abusivo e o romancezinho água com açúcar do protagonista com a personagem da Akwafina são facilmente descartáveis. O que salva essa dupla são os momentos de ação nonsense que abusam do gore e dos absurdos humanos e isso é muito bom. Mas não tem como, Nicholas Cage rouba a cena pela atuação totalmente caricata que te prende da introdução até o fim!!!

half of this is fun and bloody (wayyyyyy bloodier than I expected from, ostensibly, still a comedy!) and entertaining in a way that's incredibly hard to not recommend seeing at least/just once and then the other half includes 10 full minutes of Awkwafina being shocked at cop corruption in 2023 and teases of fun stuff we should have gotten instead (why would you have just one scene of Lugosi-Nicolas Cage black and white camp goodness, what the fuck???? give me a full-length feature of just that!! WHY PUT IT IN THE OPENING TOO)

so while i was watching this i was thinking why would anyone make a Dracula/Renfield movie with a mob/crime family storyline. like i dont get this choice, but also the movie is fun and funny. a bit heartfelt too. i really like how they recreated scenes from Dracula (1931) i loved nick hoult as Renfield as much as i loved him as R in warm bodies. he needs to do more roles like these. everyone was great in this movie. also am i the only one who ships Renfield and Rebecca?

Nicholas Hoult is so hot when he does weird roles. My heart skipped a beat everytime they cut to Dracula (which didn't help that I was the only person in the cinema). The gore was a lot but in a good way. This is essentially a break up movie and I love that. Everyone's performance was great. It's definitely a fun campy movie, I highly recommend.
