Dr. No

bond marathon movie no. 1 mother found out all the bond movies are now on prime video so she’s making me go through a bond marathon (not that i’m complaining either, it’s about time i watch the bond movies that came out before daniel craig’s). this being the first bond movie is kinda mind blowing, the confidence of it makes it seem like the reverence the james bond cinematic universe has was already established and alive. loved the soundtrack, the colours and the costumes. and let’s just say i am no better than all the bond girls i would fold too, sean connery is sexy what can i say (he’s mother’s favourite bond). can’t wait for the next movie.

Dr. No

The first Bond ever made, Dr No is up there with the best. This is my second viewing, and I enjoyed it much more the second time around. Good acting, interesting plot and the start of something fantastic, Dr No is superb.

Dr. No

Well done if overlong and a little too slowly paced. But hey, you’re never perfect right out of the gate.

Dr. No

Was anyone going to tell me that Rami Malek is quite obviously playing Dr. No in No Time to Die or was I supposed to figure that out myself by watching Dr. No for the first time?

Dr. No

Dr. No

I grew up with Daniel Craig’s run as Bond, but it’s still surprising how long I went without watching his predecessors. I snagged MGM’s 24-film collection for a steal and finally started crossing off a major blind spot—beginning with Terence Young’s Dr. No. There’s a lot to love in Young’s on-screen take of both Bond as a character and Ian Fleming’s story in general. I guess I’d want to write about Bond himself first:Sean Connery infuses the character with dry wit and an edge that became foundational going forward. He’s suave, cynical, and unabashedly chauvinist—less from hatred, and more from a mid-century relic of masculinity. It’s frankly funny how easily he manages to sweep up women with a look and a couple clever quips. Speaking of which, Ursula Andress’s Honey Ryder basically sets the “Bond girl” template. Her Crab Key entrance—rising from the water in that white bikini—is iconic for good reason. On the villain side, Joseph Wiseman (a Canadian-American, definitely NOT Asian) plays the titular Dr. No with a haughty narcissism; the yellowface is…an “interesting” choice to put it mildly. He’s magnetic when onscreen, even if the film doesn’t use him as much—or as long—as you might hope. On a technical level, Dr. No really impressed me. The warm Jamaican locations manage to pop, and the stark modernism of No’s lair gives the film a chic, almost sci-fi twist. Production designer Ken Adambrings real texture to the interiors; the film, being first out of the gate, was in the unique position to define the Bond look going forward, and it absolutely does. Maurice Binder’s titles may show their age now, but they set the tone, and Monty Norman’s theme (arranged by John Barry) is forever immortalized. It isn’t a perfect experience, but Dr. No is a testament to collaborative ingenuity. A lot of talented people pulling together to turn Fleming’s pulp into Technicolor reality—that alone is worth celebrating. • Watched in 2025 — Ranked (https://boxd.it/C7Jq6)

Dr. No

‘a license to kill, not GET killed.’ finally getting back to my james bond exploration and after finishing craig’s tenure, i’m looping back to the beginning. beyond anything else it was truly just great to see so much groundwork being laid for what becomes so iconic to the franchise. also connery truly exudes such easy charisma as bond early on, i can already see why so many claim him as their favourite bond. however, while i can appreciate that for the time this was probably mind-blowing, it really did not have me at the edge of my seat.

Dr. No

first ever james bond watch. wanted to get into this franchise for the longest time and i finally caved in. the production design is so damn good. the colors and the scenery are just *chef's kiss*. it just looks so good! sean connery is very flattering and i enjoyed watching him. ursula andress was so hot as honey ryder 🙂‍↕️ now for the cons of this movie: i do not really like or enjoy dr. no as the villain and i do not really get point of what he was trying to accomplish, his upbringing, aswell as his motive. some of the characters were pretty forgettable. the last 15 to 20 minutes dragged on a little, personally.
