Diary entries forQuezon

“a house divided against itself must fall” its been a few hours since i’ve seen this film because i want to digest everything that i can from the film before writing a review. i haven’t seen the previous films in such a long time but i do think this is the best one from bayaniverse. this has been one of my most anticipated films this year and man it did not disappoint. since i saw the trailer i knew it was promising and seeing it today i can honestly say that it exceeded my expectations. i love that the movie didn't shy away from criticizing quezon and showing us exactly who he really is? unlike the books from school that made him look like a great man the way it did with that propaganda movie that nadia made for his presidential campaign. when it comes to history talaga you really do have to read more than what they teach you from school (and its books) because if you haven’t i think people would've been so shocked at how disgusting and evil quezon is. quezon is exactly the reason why we have the type of politicians we have now, it started with him and it’ll continue to infiltrate the government as years goes by if we don’t do anything about it. a chameleon who changes its skin with every person he interacts with, even his own wife and friends to reap its benefits. to quezon the country is just a game to be played with and as long as it makes him look good and he comes out at the top he will continue to play that game until his last breath, hence, “I am the Philippines”. incredible incredible acting performance from every single actors in this cast especially jericho rosales who is undoubtedly the stand out, he really reminded everyone how great of an actor he is wow. other than jericho of course, we also have mon confiado, romnick sarmenta, cris villanueva, and benjamin alves who stood out as well but lets not forget the women who supported this actors. karylle, ana abad santos, and angeli agbayani who wasn’t able to do much or even say much but you can feel and see everything that theyre feeling in their face, and especially their eyes, the subtleties of it all made such a huge impact. although i do wish that we were able to hear from them more, to know about their thoughts and feelings, to ser them more than as the wives of these men. especially with aurora who stuck by him and so loyal to him till the very end despite him being an unloyal douchebag. the film is so creative as well, its like watching a movie within a movie. the cinematography is so so so beautiful, theres this specific shot towards the end —kudos to the editing as well i got goosebumps with the back and forth between quezon and aguinaldo doing their campaign and its contrast— where they were calling aguinaldo a traitor, such a good fucking shot wow. sound design and production design are undoubtedly incredible as well. i do think theres still so much to say about this film but i think this is all i got for today. i however cannot wait to see this again — hopefully soon — in streaming so i can pick up the parts and pieces i have missed during the first watch. tl;dr this is a good ass fucking movie and i had an incredible cinematic experience which is made even better because mon confiado and benjamin alves showed up at our screening
