Some Nights I Feel Like Walking

Some nights, it hits. But most times, it misses. This film opens with urgency. Its commentary on how a corrupt system strips marginalized people of their autonomy feels sharp and purposeful in the first half. There’s weight in its early moments—an understanding of injustice, survival, and what it means to navigate Manila when the odds are stacked against you. Visually, the film is striking. The cinematography captures the neon glow and quiet despair of the city with intention. But as the story unfolds, the emotional sincerity begins to thin. It tackles drug use, body prostitution, and queer lives existing between the shadows and spectacle of the city—topics that demand depth and care merely get presented. Knowing that the final portions were filmed in a single night due to budget constraints makes sense, because you can feel that urgency bleeding into the screen. Scenes that should linger and resonate pass too quickly, leaving their emotional impact behind.
